I liked it. Didn't really love it though. It was a really up and down anime for me.
Yea and the drawn out downs are a bit of a buzzkill. But thats hardly a complaint to be honest.
That was kind of a problem, that the suffering parts were kind of dragged out unnecessarily for a bit too long. But what kind of irked me the most was how many times they had to repeat a scene over and over and over again.
I really disliked how they kept repeating the piercing the ear drum scene continuously. I think at one point in one of the episodes they showed the same animated scene at least three or four times, and a similar animated scene with Kaiji losing his ear like three/four times. I know that there's supposed to be meaning in this, but when the show spends a lot of the time saying the same things also in the narration (I found that part to be....really hit or miss) it can be really break how immersed one is in Kaiji's struggles or even worse it can make you feel kind of indifferent to the whole thing.
It was still good, but I think the show might have actually benefited a lot more if it just cut out a lot of stuff that I think wasn't that necessary.
But then again, in the words of CSheep: "No. This is...REAL ART."
Kaiji is all about epic manly/moe struggle and putting one's life on the line. Not so much about the tricks, which are much less epic :/ In short, it's all about the zawa zawa.
/spoiler] More and more this series is making me think of Guy Gavriel Kay's The Lions of Al-Rassan and frankly that makes me a little worried. I just finished Episode 17 when Kircheis meets Yang, and how both Yang and Reinhard expressed desire to meet each other. Without knowing anything I don't know which is saddest, those two great minds never meeting, meeting and being unable to agree because of methods, or perhaps saddest meeting, becoming friends and having to fight and become bitter enemies.
To quote from the aforementioned book: "What shall good men do in such a war ...?" "Kill each other, until something ends in the world."

Noragami showed potential to be very good as early as ep 1. Not sure what you're on about.

I didn't find the concept that interesting at first but a friend told me about so I gave it a try. The first episode(or two?) didn't hook me like in other anime.
In Gundam Build Fighters, do you guys think those twins from a few episodes melted down PVC Figures of their waifus in order to build their GM Sniper K9? They would have had to, right? Since the EXAM System is powered by newtype girls.
Well the systems like the Exam system in Build Fighters don't alter the abilities of the pilots like they do in the Gundam universe they just increase the speed and power of the mobile suit. I don't know how they customize the control systems of Gunpla. Do they need to preform surgery from models that do have the exam system or do they just put in a chip? It would be funny if they had to melt down plastic girls, but there are other new type systems that don't require sacrifices like the Zero system.
Watching Gasaraki up to 7 now. It's odd for a very realistic mecha show to have a supernatural theme as one of its main plot points. The pacing also feels very slow with a lot of politics and little mecha action, but I'm still interested. Votoms didn't show the more crazy sci-fi elements until the end.
The battle itself was pretty nice. The drama not so much. If you're just gonna kill off a side char with no development, I'm not gonna care. -_-
And then next ep we have the eager students going into battle without orders. Gee, I wonder how that'll turn out. Real combat horrors of war blah blah blah.
The phase of the anime is a bit slow but even though this is very old it is still good nonetheless. I am actually not expecting to be enjoying this.
Pretty sweet to make me grin all the time. And the best part is that they are not in high school and both of them are adults or young-adults which makes it more enjoyable. The show actually has some romantic development not just tease you all the fucking time.
I should have anticipated this since this show has the same creator as inuyasha and Ranma 1/2.
96 episodes is pretty damn long but what the hell.

rofl. And meiji dude laughed on the samurai gundam using chinese kung fu.
Good episode but seriously i hope i dont see melee battle anymore.
Sengoku Astray on the other hand....its gunpla sales will probably skyrocket. Throw in the that japanese castle scene set bandai would be printing money off it.
