If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.ggFor currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net |

I was wondering for someone who has broader anime horizons than I do (basically the jump manga/anime), could you recommend me an anime with an equally deep storyline and excellent characters? so again, I'm basically more keen for a really well executed storyline and well thought-out characters than specific genres or sub-genres. Cheers!
Evangelion is super deep.
Probably the most DEEP thing you'll ever see in your life.

Cheers! I'm sure if you look under specific sections of that chart, you'll find some with much better story/excellent characters than Code Geass. Btw, I hope you only meant season 1 of Code Geass, and do not include R2 in that.

Really? I thought it was fairly straight forward minus the external influences. If you want deep try Air, Monster or FLCL.

I don't think everyone here understands how DEEP Evangelion is.
Either way, I did enjoy all the mass produced knightmare frames in Code Geass greatly. Fantastic things.

I know Evangelion is the most deep thing in anime, but don't forget that when it comes to Code Geass, the next best thing is Guilty Crown. An incredibly DEEP and INTELLECTUAL story with the most dynamic characters since Code Geass. The action is amazing as well but always has a DEEPER meaning. Of course, this is no surprise as it comes from the writer of Code Geass. Clearly, his ability to produce groundbreaking stories has only increased. It is truly a work of art in this shallow world of anime.

K-ON is clearly the deepest show. It's all about the struggling efforts of four out of place girls trying to find their way through the world. They're all socially awkward but they find friendship and solace through the power of music.
