I'm still a bit leery of Batoto. Yes, it means money flows to the scanlator instead of the aggregator, but even the scanlator isn't holy. In general, I would like some transparency from scanlators. The donation button set a clear goal per month and clearly showed when that goal was achieved.
Please avoid using Mangafox, if you can.

so I waited two weeks for a new Raqiya chapter and then finally find it on batoto but pretty much nothing happened in the chapter. Where are my demons and story T_T

i mostly use unixmanga.com easy to track where i was there... because usually i like to leave a manga alone for longer and then read a bunch of chapters.

Spoilers! I doubt though, that anyone that reads this thread has Suzuka on their want-to-read list though. After this event though, the manga should end. There's not really anything else left unless the mangaka wants Haruto to fulfill his restaurant dream (which would take a gazillion more chapters).

Because they take shit of the scanlators without compensating them, Red Hawk for example pretty much puts a warning notice at the start of every scan because they have their own hosting and with mangafox just brazenly taking whatever they find and putting it on the site it sucks for the guy who actually did the work and wants to put it on his.

I have no doubts that this author can come up with countless more bullshit story arcs

I dont think they are mad because they are not compesating them. Most scanlator sites use a 24 hour delay period for sites like Mangafox for their releases but they never respect that and thats why everyone shits on Mangafox and Mangahere ( both owned by some chinese company i think )
In a way its about money but mostly they wanna popularize Batoto and their own sites for ppl to read manga instead of Mangafox who are making huge profits from everyone for no work and cant even respect a single rule to delay uploading manga for 24 hours.

Im not saying dont use it, I use mangafox I honestly dont care. Thats the logic they present anyway, they want to promote themselves, maybe what Skeia is saying is more accurate Im not privy to that rule, its just of the warning messages they publish on their scans (that ironically appear on mangafox). As for the compensations thats really what I mean, if you want to host it asap then you pay up otherwise delay the release so the host site gets the hits first.
Also anime streaming website's offer a convenience, thats an additional service, they are doing "something" to make anime more accessible. For people who cant use torrents or are for whatever reason unable to DDL stuff streaming is actually useful. Thats not quite the same thing. They are actively saying we do more than them to bring you this and we offer the same service come to us. Its not to much to ask in retrospect.

That is not the reason. Scanlators do not own anything and any work they put in (speaking from experience) is put to shame compared to the work of the mangaka. Aggregators do have a right to exist. The 24-hour rule is shit. So are watermarks.
It's all about the money. Scanlating should be a charity effort. There's no excuse for profiteering on a mangaka's hard work.. Aggregators usually earn money out of it. Mangafox in particular garners an incredible amount of pageviews and in turn an even more incredible sum of ad money. Mangafox is owned by NOEZ, a company based in China (reason why mangafox hasn't been taken down yet?). NOEZ is a generally shady company (mangafox isn't their only source of income, and not their only story). They're certainly not interested in managing a healthy scanlation scene. They're interested in money.
This is why I'm leery of Batoto. Not every scanlator is doing this for free. Some have to maintain server costs, that's fine. Be transparent about it.
|
I dont see why Scanlating needs to be purely charity, It makes no difference to the mangaka either way. If you are doing something and if there is money to be made anyway then why not. Unless you go out of your way to harm the scene to make money I dont see it as a problem, youve already infringed by scanlating.

So I don't get it, whats the point in having a 24 hour delay? Wanting to popularize Batoto is about money, right? Wanting people to read it in their own site is also about money. Sounds to me like the pirates are mad that they are getting pirated. Although, granted, I know next to nothing about this issue. Seems like it would be the same deal as anime-streaming sites and Fansubbers, and who cares about that?

How would you feel if you put alot of work into scanlating series which cost manpower, time, money which you do in your free time and then some shitty guy/company comes and takes it away from you and makes money from it and not even mention you that is your work. Yes its illegal what scanlators do but at least we read our manga because of them and I would gladly support them (Batoto) instead of Mangafox.
Anyway Batoto is superior to Mangafox so I dont see any reason why I would use them anymore. The only thing that MF got over Batoto is bigger database of manga because MF is much older and Batoto respects the wishes of every scanlator group.
Its easier to follow the manga interests you and the quality is much better compared to Mangafox .

Btw, I've been involved in scanlating before. Was a cleaner for a group that was doing Giant Robo: Day the Earth Burned. I don't care if someone else makes money off that, and I'm sure none of the other guys who worked on that with me cared either. So that "how would you feel" argument doesn't work on me.
