Luffy and the SH are basically just people setting off adventuring (so are a lot of people) but they all insist to be called pirates. Outside of Norland and Robin's mother don't they have explorers or just people wandering around drifting on the sea. Considering the marines will attack if you say you are one (regardless if you have broken any laws), I would think more people would just say "fuck these labels, I am just sailing the seas". well they run out on tabs start fights whenever they want and tried to leave skypeia with large amounts of gold
and Nami robs everyplace they visit blind
they dont do much pirating, but they dont do much law abiding neither

For Luffy calling yourself a pirate is part of the adventure, so of course he does it. For most of the other pirates, they probably commit crimes, so the marines will call them pirates anyway, so you might as well have a cool flag to intimidate the enemy. As for people who just go around adventuring, and don't incidentally piss off the government (like Luffy does non-stop), they exist. Orlumbus from the arena is one of them, for example. They probably just interract less with the Strawhat crew, since they aren't pirates.

Being a pirate is all about flying a Jolly Roger and doing what you want. That's my interpretation of pirates in One Piece anyway.
Basically, your actions aren't bound by the law and you aren't under anyone's governance. You then see the different possible ways to act while being a pirate. Some steal and plunder (classic pirates, Bluejam, Kuro, lots of small fry). Others actively seek treasure, like Buggy (who also steaks and plunders). Other pirates seek domination and power, those would be Crocodile, Don Krieg, Blackbeard. Whitebeard just wanted a big family. The whole point of being a pirate is being free from any constraints and using your power to follow your ambition, without giving a care about anything else, unlike Marines who follow orders (they also protect people from pirates, at least the good ones do), armies for a country which protect that country or the Revolutionaries who have the active goal of overthrowing the WG.
What separates Luffy from most pirates is that he uses his strength not for domination or wealth and things like that. He, like Shanks, just wants to do whatever he wants. It's the freedom & adventure he's after. The pirate king is the guy who has the most freedom in the world which is why Luffy wants to find One Piece.

Yeah, I thought about the explorer thing as well. To make it short: Luffy wants to be pirates because Shanks is a pirate. So they are pirates.

ohgod the world is a different place knowing that we wont get new chapter for 2 weeks.....

She manipulates and steals what she wants. Loves treasure and money, drinks like a fish.
But seriously... Can we have time travel now please??? These two weeks are going to kill me...

I took a ~12 week break from one piece not too long ago. It wasn't too bad.

T_T oh god its only been a week?

It's okay guys, we can pass the time by trying to pass the Naruto thread in total posts. Though that thread (and the Bleach one) is buoyed up by all the shit talk.

Since OP is my favorite I can watch everything from start to finish and be very happy. Not going to lie, I enjoyed the East Blue arc a LOT. Whiskey peak is both good and hilarious as well. Currently in Little Garden, which is also a nice arc. Just like every arc. I filtered out the filler though.
This would be my 4th time watching One Piece from start to finish. It's so fucking long that I can easily just start over when I'm done since what I've seen is so far away from where I currently am. Unfortunately this means I don't watch anything else, I did Fairy Tail once but that's it.

Never really got into bleach but i followed naruto and that story makes me sad.. Kishimoto never managed to keep the evolution of the powers and skills under control and it's all over..
When they started they were so weak and now Naruto is almost more powerfull then the first Hokage and Sasuke will somehow surpass Madara.. They started by throwing Kunais and now they can send Nukes like Dragon Ball lol!
Look at OP, the series has 18 years (started in 97 right?) and there is like 20 guys or more that would kick luffy's ass no problem! He it will take much more until he is able to be called the number 1
It was been a very logic and progressive adventure within the super siliness of the OP world, shit makes sense even if it's a flying fish with bull horn. it's amazing!

The thing is that Naruto and Bleach were never meant to go on as long as they have. Kishi and Kubo never planned to continue their stories beyond a certain point ( Aizen (or ss?) arc for bleach and I believe Naruto was supposed to end after the Pain arc). Oda on the otherhand doesn't have these problems and isn't being forced to continue the story beyond his original intentions.

The original premise of naruto was that he would become hokage. After the pain arc he pretty much became hokage. Im sure it could all have been resolved within a couple of chapters afterwards.

The straw hats are more akin to terrorists than pirates. They go around destabalizing governments, starting revolutions, robbing people, killing politicians, breaking out criminals and generally fucking with the world government. They're insurgents; anime Al-queida.
