Because he would being fucking lynched on sight for teh shit he suposedly did (which was probably a set up by DF but we'll see)
I like this theory. But we've seen that this toy thingy was already relevant when Doflamingo took over. So the one who produces toys became a Doflamingo crew member later on?

Riots for what? I think we can assume Dolfa took over by force and that he's actually a much more evil king than the last one. Who was probably framed for something horrible, which is why everyone hates them. Could be wrong though, maybe Dolfa is actually the lesser of 2 evils this time.

i find it impossible to believe that Dofla is the lesser of 2 evils so i think hes done some hypno stuff to the entire country, like with the toys when they talked to the dog who was the chiks hubby and the boys dad they didnt even remember ever having a hubby or dad so doflas done something craaaaaaazy
most likely he somehow imprinted into everyones mind "old king was bad im super good" and thats why everyone loves him and hates the old king

what are they even going to frame the king for though? the soldier never mentioned there being a large time of unrest before Dofla arrived so it doesnt seem like he pulled a Crocodile jsut seems like he came one day and took over

Who knows? We know almost nothing about how/why Dolfa took over. Lots to know still. Lots to speculate still. But I think we can all agree that Dolfa took over by force and the people wrongly think badly of the Royal family.

Well it's pretty clear that someone working for Dofla can alter memories and I doubt that it's just a byproduct of turning people into toys. Why would turning someone into toys change everyone else's memories? I think there is probably two fruit users, the first turns people into toys and the second alters memories.

Doflamingo has been hinted at having relations with the tenryuubito which could have something to do with how the country views him and the previous king.

something doesnt seem right which was stated in a early post that the dwarves been fighting the Donquixote family for over 900 years..its obvious that DF isnt 900 years old. maybe the former king was also apart of the Donquixote family bloodline(rebecca some kind relation to DF) which has ruled over dressrosa for 900 years. Which could mean DF was instructed to take over dress rosa as a replacement for the last king doing a poor job

Based on the flashback it seemed pretty clear Dolfa implied the royal family was stealing their money and keeping it for themselves. He in turn "freed" their money and gave it "back" to them. In other words, he bribed the entire nation into thinking their kingdom had deceived them by throwing money at them, and apparently it worked pretty well.

The dwarves are probably referring to the tenryuubito, which the donquixote family is likely a part of. Given Robin is with the main force, she'll probably find more information about the void century, the ancient kingdom, and maybe a poneglyph.
According to the wiki, the void century actually started around 900 years ago.

So far Dressrosa is sure darker than Alabasta.
From what we know the former royal(riku) family didn't have the power to resist. And we have kidnapping, turning people into toys and memory altering.
I expect a typical OP happy end to this arc, but I'm not sure that people will be turned back into humans and regain their memories. At least it would be pretty wimpy to just undo those, and Oda has no history of just "undoing" things.
Maybe I just overreact because manipulating memories is my personal nightmare.

Hm, I actually thought Alabasta was the darkest arc there ever was. It had a whole country slowly dying and in their desperation rebelling against the king, it had former friends turning against each other, all set up by a mafia type organisation from behind the scenes. Plus Crocodile was one of the cruelest antagonists in the series. There were political assassinations too, even though the attack on kohza didn't kill him.
There was no mindcontrol involved which actually just makes it darker to me. They were deceived and used to slaughter one another so Crocodile could enjoy himself a kingdom and an unstoppable weapon.

That's why crocodile is so cool. weird that he'd lose to a rookie though. maybe all the time spending in the shadows organizing baroque works and only fighting small fry made him soft.
