I think the fragmented nature of Oda's story telling, always 3, 4 simultanious timelines advancing, is really good because in every chapter there is a blood boiling anime moment in at least one of the timelines

Eh Jimbe never has jived with me as being a core crew member. Just doesn't feel quite like the right fit for him. But Oda just makes things work somehow so I'll put it in God's hands.

Someone had a theory a while back that Shank crew had 10 member, so the Strawhat will have 10 member since Luffy wants to have a crew that resemble Shanks. That means that there is potentially only 1 more spot open left for Nakama. I so pray it is not Jimbe and he some how dies if this is the case. He is an okay character but he never stood out to me and never blew me away. Definitely got Pedro-ed imo, since Oda wouldn't of shown that side of her power for little reason.

Carrot for Nakama or both.

Jinbei is awesome fit imo

- powerfull - number 3 after luffy and zoro imo
- wisdom and inteligence
- well rounded in fighting, haki, swimming
- Experienced pirate and in new world
- different since he is a fishman

Hope he saves the day and joins how can a crew with teenagers become pirate kings? they need some experience also and Jimbei provides that

^Yeah, of course Luffy doesnt go by this criteria (however Oda does), but Jinbe would be incredibly beneficial just for his swimming skills as a fishman. You cant undervalue that.

If you want to debate Carrot vs Jinbe. Jinbe has a stronger connection to the crew and Carrot fits in better with the overall tone of the crew in their silliness. Depends if you want another crew mate with a similar personality or you want a more serious type for balance. I don't mind Carrot but eh would like to see someone a bit stronger (though how strong Jinbe is is something of an unknown imo outside of a general level of being fairly strong). I don't see Oda adding in any more female characters that are pretty up there in strength joining though so my hope for a strong female fighter looks grim as Carrot only has decent strength.

Overall I would be fine with either or both, but for me personally some meh elements like Carrot is UP and I just don't quite feel it with Jinbe being an everyday core member. This can be fixed with Oda adding him and putting him into the position to shine as one so I wouldn't be against it and maybe Carrot is strong enough to be relevant I guess.

I also sometimes feel like the ship has sailed for any new crew member at this stage in the game. That is another positive thing for Jinbe because he has a lot of the background legwork for his character already done.

Luffy literally says in the first chapter of One Piece that he hopes he can find at least 10 people (friends) to join his crew. In theory there's no reason Jinbe and Carrot couldn't both join, but it will obviously depend on how Oda wants the story to go.

I don't think everyone in the crew needs to be silly. Afterall, both Zoro and Robin are serious most of the time, and they fit just fine. I think Jinbe would fit fine.

The crew aint teenagers. We have Robin who's 30ish and Zoro who says he's 19 but he's probably in his late twenties or something. Then there's Brook who's like 70 years old but acts like a teenager.

Well one of the core connection all member have is that they all have a reason for traveling to the "One Piece."

What is Jimbei reason? Carrot has spoken about having a strong desire of traveling to see the world but never really a specific reason which leave a possibility. The only reason I can see why Jimbei would so far is that he desire for Human and fishman to coexist. So his reasoning could be to prove that Human and Fishman can work together by obtaining the One Piece. Which is completely logical but at the same time he has so much death flag flying over him.
