I never said Luffy needed to fight Big Mom in order to beat her. Luffy and company will not defeat Big Mom this arc totally, they will get some sort of win, but they won't cause a big defeat to her crew. Just rescuing Sanji while Big Mom is trying to stop them and preventing the wedding is a win against Big Mom. Luffy may do something in addition to that like helping Jinbei or getting some other moral victory. From the very start Luffy said he didn't intend to fight Big Mom. I even quoted and sourced when he said didn't intend to fight Big Mom. The Strawhats will defeat a Yonko eventually, but it won't happen this arc. Pretty much summed up on this page and next with him saying "It's not like I'm gonna fight her." Of course Luffy goes against what he says and I wouldn't be surprised if Luffy does fight Big Mom, but he won't beat her. http://mangapark.me/manga/one-piece/s3/c819/16 Yet somehow I'm the power level faggot? It's also dumb to shit on shounen troopes when One Piece is just as guilty as other series. Luffy won't beat the boss of the arc in a 1v1 fight to foil their plan, but it's dumb to pretend like that isn't how Luffy ends almost every arc. | ||

Essentially, Luffy defeats people by converting them to his viewpoint. Teaming up with someone basically does the same thing in a way. But also think about this: they have no reason to fight besides the poneglyph and Sanji. Teaming up with Big Mom gives Luffy access to both. It takes Big Mom out of the picture in terms of the adventure/story. | ||

Luffy is building up a large force to fight Kaido with Minks, Samurai, Ninja, Law and potentially the Strawhat alliance. What would the point of building that force if Luffy's alliance is just an add on to a Yonko vs Yonko war? | ||

luffy doesnt 'convert' people like a priest or a monk. he doesnt physically destroy people either (he could, but not what oda is talking about). i think oda is referring to luffy's stubbornness. his stubbornness and his sheer willpower that defies logic and reasoning makes people lose faith in themselves. i think the lucci fight is a decent example of where you could probably say lucci was already defeated mentally when luffy just kept coming back up. | ||

Throughout "One Piece" manga so far, he didn't kill Mohji and Helmeppo, but Axe-arm Morgan was killed by Zoro, why is that? O: Hmm! That's a very good question. First, I have to announce that Morgan is still alive. He's currently in jail, where he was placed by his former subordinates. Why doesnt Luffy kill his enemies? Because in that era, everyone uses their lives to fight for their dreams. For an enemy, when their dream has been shattered, it is the same as losing a fight, and as painful as death. I believe, for a pirate not to kill an enemy, it's giving them a 2nd chance to fight for their dreams. | ||
