+ Show Spoiler + A FUCKING masterpiece. But be warned it is 3 hours long, but the last hour is holy shit material. I would be stunned if RDJ does not get an Oscar nomination.

And the soundtrack was mesmerizing! I covered 2 recognizable songs on the piano: The Main Theme in very "pivotal" moments! The sad song that played when Kitty met Oppenheimer for the first time, and when she comes to the important place near the end:

1) the pacing is awful for the first half of the movie. Incredibly short cuts with dialog racing and virtually no pause between one clever sentence and the next. It felt like a Suits episode where two people exchange three lines and one walks off. Add to that skipping locations and time and it really didn't work for me. 2) Bad pacing and they still spent time on unnecessary side plots such as his romantic fling who they tried making more interesting through some quirky flower shtick and a weird sex scene. This all detracted from more interesting plot developments such as the possibility of triggering a world wide armageddon. 3) the plot device of Strauss' personal revenge as a vehicle to tell the story of Oppenheimers moral convictions evolving and turning was poorly executed in my opinion. Oppenheimers moral qualms make for an interesting story but the Strauss character and board hearings did little to elaborate and in my opinion are more of a distraction. Having Strauss admit to his pulling the strings like a Poirot episode and the cliche underling who turns against him to deliver some 'in your face' lines right after was also pretty bad. Definitely some good sequences in there, such as the reception/applause post the successful testing and the way we got a taste of the golden age of physics with legendary professors in all corners of the world. But they explore the interesting moral/arms race subjects way too little and spend too much time on less interesting and poorly executed subplots IMO.

I have no idea what I tried to say there , must have some autocorrected word in there. Just went to see "The book of solutions" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15732890 Not bad, very artsy and french. No emotional tears at the end though, which would have maybe sealed the deal. Hard to relate with the main character. It felt like Michel Gondry tried to have 2 character in one but more for cheap tricks, not for the plot or character development. If you like other stuff from Gondry (Eternal sunshine of a spotless mind) this is something more light hearted and I don't regret seeing it. Just used to expect something more from this guy.
