You can keep chaining Izanagi forever and ever, no longer limited by the number of eyes (most people come with 2). The only problem is how to go to sleep without losing the illusion.

plus they said that an eye that use the Izanagi can never see again therefore it stands to reason they tried everything to recover a lost eye and failed
