Now reading The Wanderer. Pretty good so far. He's very readable and then every 20 pages or so there's a flash of genius. Planning to read Hunger next.

After you finish the book, read The Origins of Political Order by Francis Fukuyama. Since you like Civilization, I think you will enjoy this book even more :D

Here are some books I finished while trudging through Infinite Jest in my own peculiar tempo. I mostly read while commuting, and it did not strike me as such a book. The Time machine - HG Wells I didnt get a whole lot of science from this father of science fiction. At least I got with me a few funny ideas and a piece of history. It was aiiight. ![]() A Dolls house - Henrik Ibsen Such a good book! [playwrite]. Would recommend to everyone. It's not very long so be careful not to cut yourself on those sharp edges. ![]() The Jungle book - Ruyard Kipling This one sucks. ![]() The Republic - Plato Some amazing insight for the time it was written in (and still to this day!). Where is the predicament for all of this observation. History is facinating. ![]() The Left hand of darkness - Ursula Leguin Pretty good. I don't feel like all she wanted to say got through. Maybe I'm supposed to read some other books from the same world to get the feel, but I don't wanna. Now reading I don't know. I'm leaving for Barcelona tomorrow so whatever makes me attractive to spanish honeys. I'm thinking either one hundred years of solitude or some Hemingway (bitches love Hemingway). Don Quixote feels a bit to big to read parallel to IJ but I would really like to read that too.

![]() Banks is an awesome writer, "Use of Weapons" was wonderful. But I can't really appreciate short stories, there's some gems in this though, such as "When in Rome, burn it". Looking forward to the next in the series though. CIV 5 sucks, CIV IV was decent, CIV III prolonged my university time by a year, but it's CIV II that's in my heart forever.

The guy I used to play UT99 with was a hardcore fan of his and ever since, I've wanted to give it a try. (Have not read much of sci-fi in general)

Burn at the cross you heathen I've heard from several credible Joseph Conrad scholars that Ruyard Kipling was in fact, a racist. But seriously it's really bad and represents the end of my "well sometimes there is more to it than the movie. AND he won the nobel prize!" era.
