I'm moving to Norway for a while so I'm reading some Knut Hamsun. Read Pan - good, incredibly depressing and relatable for me.
Now reading The Wanderer. Pretty good so far. He's very readable and then every 20 pages or so there's a flash of genius.

Planning to read Hunger next.

I recently finished Hunger and it is a very enjoyable read

Guns, Germs, and Steel complements quite nicely to my addiction to Civilization V while the Visual Group Theory gives me a different perspective as I study more into Abstract algebra

Finished reading the final Wheel of Time book just a few days ago. I've been reading and rereading these books since 2000ish. Now that it's over I feel like an important part of my life is done. Feels like a close relative died. The book was good, I just hated that it had to end.

Guns, Germs, and Steel was a nice book, but it is really outdated. After you finish the book, read The Origins of Political Order by Francis Fukuyama. Since you like Civilization, I think you will enjoy this book even more :D

How on Earth did you stumble upon that? That subtitle is very enticing.

If you are not playing civ1 I don't know what you're doing.

Here are some books I finished while trudging through Infinite Jest in my own peculiar tempo. I mostly read while commuting, and it did not strike me as such a book.

The Time machine - HG Wells
I didnt get a whole lot of science from this father of science fiction. At least I got with me a few funny ideas and a piece of history. It was aiiight.

A Dolls house - Henrik Ibsen
Such a good book! [playwrite]. Would recommend to everyone. It's not very long so be careful not to cut yourself on those sharp edges.

The Jungle book - Ruyard Kipling
This one sucks.

The Republic - Plato
Some amazing insight for the time it was written in (and still to this day!). Where is the predicament for all of this observation. History is facinating.

The Left hand of darkness - Ursula Leguin
Pretty good. I don't feel like all she wanted to say got through. Maybe I'm supposed to read some other books from the same world to get the feel, but I don't wanna.

Now reading
I don't know. I'm leaving for Barcelona tomorrow so whatever makes me attractive to spanish honeys. I'm thinking either one hundred years of solitude or some Hemingway (bitches love Hemingway). Don Quixote feels a bit to big to read parallel to IJ but I would really like to read that too.

Just finished State of the Art by Iain M Banks.

Banks is an awesome writer, "Use of Weapons" was wonderful. But I can't really appreciate short stories, there's some gems in this though, such as "When in Rome, burn it". Looking forward to the next in the series though.

CIV 5 sucks, CIV IV was decent, CIV III prolonged my university time by a year, but it's CIV II that's in my heart forever.

What would be a good choice for starting out with Banks?

The guy I used to play UT99 with was a hardcore fan of his and ever since, I've wanted to give it a try.

I have also just finished Siddharta for the second time.

Now I am reading something less mindful but more entertaining. The Dresden Files, I'm currently midway in book two. Really good and thrilling. I like it very much.

I've heard from several credible Joseph Conrad scholars that Ruyard Kipling was in fact, a racist.

But seriously it's really bad and represents the end of my "well sometimes there is more to it than the movie. AND he won the nobel prize!" era.

Are they also not good, or am I wrong?

I enjoyed the flaring reception the people is this thread gave the most recent laureate Alice Munro.
