After you finish the book, read The Origins of Political Order by Francis Fukuyama. Since you like Civilization, I think you will enjoy this book even more :D | ||

Here are some books I finished while trudging through Infinite Jest in my own peculiar tempo. At least I got with me a few funny ideas and a piece of history. Don Quixote feels a bit to big to read parallel to IJ but I would really like to read that too. | ||

But I can't really appreciate short stories, there's some gems in this though, such as "When in Rome, burn it". Looking forward to the next in the series though. CIV 5 sucks, CIV IV was decent, CIV III prolonged my university time by a year, but it's CIV II that's in my heart forever. | ||

I've heard from several credible Joseph Conrad scholars that Ruyard Kipling was in fact, a racist. But seriously it's really bad and represents the end of my "well sometimes there is more to it than the movie. AND he won the nobel prize!" era. Are they also not good, or am I wrong? I enjoyed the flaring reception the people is this thread gave the most recent laureate Alice Munro. | ||
