I have no intention of derailing this thread or starting a war. I've never really enjoyed techno/trance/house, and now everyone is raving about dubstep. Could anyone explain what makes a good dubstep song vs. a shitty one? Examples? (I imagine everything posted here is considered "good" by at least one person). Dubstep is something I can't really enjoy at a club unless I'm under the influence of drugs. Any thoughts/explanations in order?

I listen to alot of music from Reggae to Classic to Punk to Metal, rarely listening to techno or trance which I do not enjoy with the rare exception. But I enjoy bass. It's that simple. And Dubstep delivers. I am not a fan of making a dubstep remix out of every popsong coming out. Yet it is happening and quite alot of people enjoy it. And there are some real gems inbetween those aswell (see La Roux - In For the Kill by Skream for example). So yea, won't try to persuade you Oxygen, yet you should probably check out some of the 'slower' dubstep tracks and let yourself carry by the bass.

Absolutely love that one. It was on the UFK Dubstep 2010 album, just like this one: It took some time to get used to the baselines but now it just gives me the chills ![]()

Plus most of the dubstep is way too melodic imo. Oh, I guess that wasn't your point after all, nvm. :F And I realize there is such music, but not even close to as sick as I'd want it to be. Guess what I'm looking for wouldn't even be music. :/

bass + clear space with no shitty clutter filling up the mids with defined melodic components, can't really complain about that reso is probably up there too with one of my favourites as well, some of his songs have probably been posted, but his temjin EP is just so diverse, it's hard to find that much variety in a single EP consider: against: showing that he can sport any sound and craft it well dubstep is starting to become degraded though through mainstream, skrillex leading the charge under the mau5trap label TONS of artists sporting the pointless angry sound with annoying mid frequency clutter and tons of shit thrown in which hurts my ears (see skrillex) sometimes it's ok, but there are just so many artists taking advantage of the new mainstream crowd churning out "derrty f1lthy" garbage to cash in, feels bad man anyway, some of the gems i've found listening to this weird and conflicted genre, enjoy!:

(I imagine everything posted here is considered "good" by at least one person). Dubstep is something I can't really enjoy at a club unless I'm under the influence of drugs. Any thoughts/explanations in order? dubstep, is technically supposed to have a focus on the rhythm elements with alot of space where the bass is usually the extent of the melody, sometimes supported by pads for richness/harmony what we hear alot of today (da CluB BangErZ) isn't actually dubstep by definition, it's just noise churned in a blender with some hectic wob wob bass that will incite the repsonse of "omG daT is so F1ltHy11!" as for what makes a "good" dubstep song: subjectively, nothing or anything. the interpretation is entirely up to the individual however, we can ask the question: "how closely does this song fit the criteria of dubstep music?" If there is too much focus on melodic components or the mid-level frequencies, then I would say that that is probably not really dubstep at all. In technical terms, dubstep will be drums, bass, and minimal melody + harmony to keep listener interest. There should NEVER be too much melody because there is MEANT to be alot of space in the music burial is a good example of an artist that incorporates actual elements of dub into his music: and also: alot of people will say this type of music is boring or that they simply don't like it when the fact of the matter is is that it more closely resembles what dubstep is actually supposed to be than any of the songs that are considered popular today.

Play it on a really good stereo with high bass on it! and just ENJOY! I present NIT GRIT! ![]() <- The Song! Enjoy! Edit: by the way i just googled some dubstep music! and found this site! http://www.dubstep.fm/ its a dubstep radio!! Advanced music? Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with simple music, but dubstep wouldn't fall under advanced. Look up Dubstep Tutorial on youtube, that's essentially what all dubstep is.
