Why would you want like half those people to die?
Like Erza? Really? Your fucking crazy.

Sieghart died in Rave. Actually, a lot of people died in Rave.
|
Gildartz was in Rave too? Thought it was a Only Jellal (which is why he decided to bring him back) tho imo it would have been much better to have left him dead because he is fucking terrible now.

oops no i meant sieghart. i got messed up with the pseudo german names

I feel like her character arc is exhausted and she's part of the "old guard" which needs to die off so the new generation can come about.

She has always been Natsu's et al's generation. The only relevant old guard would be the 2 guild masters and gildartz. The rest of the older people are those side char guys that no one gives a fuck about.
Erza is one of the main FT characters. By this point everyones "arc is exhausted" except for Natsu because his background arc is the last one and he is the main mc. You basically called for the lions share of the main characters to die. Leaving most of the less popular characters alive. Seems like your list is way toof long and has too many big names on it.

It's the end of the series, dude. Fairy Tail is done. The ending would be a lot better and have muchmore significance if it was a "hold the line" moment. Obviously that can't happen now because the enemy is basically finished off... but imagine an alternate reality where Mashima actually has some balls. The empire comes strolling in, destroying cities and guild left and right and it's up to fairy tail to hold them off for as long as possible. Main characters and side characters ding left and right in sacrifice to slow down the enemy until one glorious finale. What we have now is a disappointing "meh" invasion where every one of the demi-god level mages are finished off with the power of friendship. No conflict. No interest. No real sense of danger. It's very underwhelming.

killing people for the sake of killing them isnt good writing if they die it should be because its a good idea for the story and be significant not just "fuck it final arc, rocks fall everyone dies" because then noone cares because there death was pointless
|
yeah, slow down there george rr martin
to be fair jk rowling did also kill off a lot of people we liked
|
The problem is your killing off too much. Jesus who of the characters the readership cares about survives with the list you made of who should die? Killing for the sake of drama is dumb and lazy attempt to make a series more edgy. You can still have your final grim hold the line confrontation without mass death and for the way the series is it would just seem like desperation by the author. FT has never been that way so why start now?
|
You keep assuming these deaths are senseless. If you want, I can outline a good reason for every death I've mentioned. But it would take me a long time so I'll have to charge by the hour.

if you kill of a main character it should be like Ace or Sieghart they deserve there death to get attention and have meaning not just die in a panel and immediately ignored

If you gut the cast that extensively at the very end then it doesn't matter if you make a good reason for them to die doesn't change the fact that the readers will leave the series with a bitter taste in their mouths knowing the series ended with a Pyrrhic victory where the majority of the favorite chars are dead and FT the guild is gutted and a shadow of its former self.
Especially doing it in a series where death for the good side has been scarce and even a large chunk of the baddies didn't end up dead. It would be out of place.

like Berserk people are prob expecting several deaths if it ever gets to its end

all the ppl in berserk died of old age didnt you know? took too long for the chapters to come out

no spoilers from other manga pls
now i know that this sieghart guy dies in some manga which i haven't read yet

Honestly the only end I'd agree to be a good end at this point is an end where zeref wins.
You can't kill off main characters because that's not what FT is like (sadly) and any death now would be very counter-intuitive for pretty much everyone reading it. And you can't really just let fairy tail win the strongest army in the world AND zeref who has been the superbadass of legend just by the power of friendship, because we have yugioh for that. Sadly I'm pretty sure nakama power will prevail in the end.
|
Also my 2 cents about Erza --
+ Show Spoiler +don't kill me + Show Spoiler + seriously + Show Spoiler +I don't see her as a main character. + Show Spoiler + honestly the only people i see as main characters atm are natsu, mavis and zeref. everyone else is just.. there. + Show Spoiler + and in erza's case she's always kinda just "been there" and done "some stuff" and I've never really felt a connection with her. She's just there for comic relief most of the time when she needs to kick natsu and/or gray in the shin, and for fanservice. Mainly fanservice.

and they have a bunch of other guilds there fighting as well

he could light a fart in their direction and they'd probably be defeated
