Well gee I would hope they know about a giant enemy fleet attacking one of their cities. It's not like you can hide a couple hundred battle cruisers crossing the ocean. What the fuck was fairy tall thinking anyways? Do they intend to take on an empire on their own? Sure they have some strong mages but this isn't a tiny rival guild were talking about. What, they didn't want to be a burden on their neighboring allies? Hey... s-sorry to trouble you but there's A GIANT ENEMY FLEET ABOUT TO WIPE US OFF THE MAP. SEND HELP PLEASE?!

well FT got caught pretty off guard for the most part even with prior knowledge

There's no (real) justification for them not seeking help (beyond the shonen stock "I don't want to get my friends in trouble") it's just a method to build tension. Even if the "I don't want to get my friends in trouble" argument falls apart when you're fighting a dark wizard with 12 apostles that are, by and large, nutso and love killing random people so if you lose your friends will be in trouble.

I really really dont like how the writer is handling Gildarts.. Honestly, it would have been better if he would not have been introduced to us at all, because now we know that there is someone insanely strong in FT, but whoop dee doop, he loves the guild and his daughter, but is just never around no matter how bad stuff gets because reasons.
Is he in a whorehouse or something now ?

I actually like how the existence of Gildarts gives a bit of context to the scope of power levels in the world. It's annoying when every season enemies randomly become stronger. The knowledge that there are stronger people around at any time kind of mitigates that for me.
|
Yeah, Gildartz is probably gonna show up, wipe the floor 1vX with a few of the Spriggan 12, fight God Serena and "struggle" before wrecking him.
|
the thing is, serena is supposed to be #1 on the continent, and that includes gildarts. Gildarts just being there and being able to beat wizard saints kind of negates the whole existence of the rankings.
|
I wouldn't be surprised if Mashima pulled something like "because Gildarts is a roaming free spirit he actually turned down the title of #1 wizard saint" lol I wouldn't put it past Mashima to pull that (doubt he is strong enough to be #1 tho) but he is undoubtedly at wizard saint level (almost impossible to say where he would fall though). Power is not the only factor that goes into who gets chosen.
With Gildarts I am disappointed in how he has been handled. He is a funny and cool guy to have around but Mashima has just had him roaming like 95% of the manga. It was kinda necessary near the start of the series because he was strong enough to solo like all of their problems but we have been in territory for a while where he couldn't just hard carry by himself anymore so he should be there more (they even gave him a reason to be around more with him learning about Cana).
Jura is another char that has gotten the shaft despite his hype in the series.

Not really. Gildarts is way above Makarov and Jura but has never been top10.

the 10 wizard saints is more then battle ability theyd never promote Gildarts to it based on personality alone theyd rather someone weaker but more presentable like earth dude
|
Treant dude said he was weak as fuck, but he was still #4. The wizard saints aren't completely based on fighting ability, so it could very well be that Gildartz is better in a fight.
|
I'd say Gildartz is probably top 5 in the series. Acnologia, Zeref, full-power Hades, not sure anyone else? Potentially a couple of the Spriggan 12 I guess, but they haven't been shown enough to make any meaningful comparison.
|
Laxus is getting pretty monster level. Beat Jura in the magic games and that was ages ago.
And yea who knows just how powerful hades was if the damn cats hadn't messed with that this feeding him power.
|
Wizard Saint is just a title. If you based it just on fighting ability then Laxus, Erza, Natsu and maybe Gray are all potential candidates.
It's like getting knighted today. It's a fancy thing you can call yourself but it doesn't necessarily mean anything.

except jura is rank 5, so if gildarts is above jura then he is definitely in the top 10.

It was mentioned many times in the manga, that the wizard saints are indeed the strongest mages in the continent. The fairy tail co-founder guy/treant is also insanely strong, in his arc it was very strongly hinted that he is indeed an extremely powerful mage, he was just very humble.
