she is a super strong illusionist
maybe the crystal has anything to do with it? Like she is dead but the crystal keeps her body "alive", and as long as her body is okay she can use the illusion magic to talk to Fairy Tail

i think its more shes a ghost, even though her body is dead the magic is keeping her alive still an they have a way for her to "posess" her body for a short time?

The curse made her immortal. But she died. So her body is dead but her spirit hangs around because she can't die. Her body is likely in the crystal because it's still emitting the curse that kills everything.
That's my theory anyway.

well find out, the ghost form could be exhausting, there could be time limit to how long she can maintain it or something bad could happen if maintained too long (like the curse start killing)
or maybe she jsut didnt want to be seen earlier, no reason for her to apear and she apears as soon as shes needed again
as for why not stick around zeref, the 2 of them are enemies now, Zeref trying to kill everything and her trying to stop him, maybe by the time she even could ghost form he was too insane for her to really hang with him
or maybe she has been hanging with him in ghost form, he was on her island afterall, and thats why we havent seen much of her cause she was chilling with Zeref

They seemed to not be on good terms when he 1st appeared and there was the 1st glimpse of a connection between the two. He couldn't see her but he said something like "I know you are there" and then he talked a bit.
