I love it! It's a necessary step forward because I was sad ft was ending soon, but now there's new hope and I hope this alvarez arc is good and long and then we can do the zeref finale!
How is it a step forward though? Look how you want, it is pretty much a filler arc. The story was set. Everything was set for a good finale. Now it's all being put aside to show something else, which basically came from nowhere. That's basically the definition of filler. Shows that overstay their welcome often become much worse overall. I really hope it won't be the case here, but so far, it looks like it will be. Stuff like this should've been put up as an OVA or something after the anime ends.

Woo reformation of team b and omg is that yury as God Serena?! If It is I hope he's just a spy trying to protect his precious mavis's body and whatever lumen histoire is and doesn't end up evil like the last ft master. Also, how the hell did mavis die while every other founding member is still alive?!

who saids shes dead? her body certainly seems intact could just be in stasis
It's true that mavis's body may just be in stasis and no I'm not sure if that's really yury and is just a guess. I know precht is dead now but he was alive in this current timeline for a while.
The number of enemy leaders keeps on increasing. You start by fighting the Oracion Seis, then the Seven Kin of Purgatory, then the Nine Demon Gates, and now you end up with Twelve. At some point it'll just take an excessive number of chapters to defeat all of them. I really hope Acnologia or Zeref kill the last 3 or 4 of them just to make a point of how badass they are.

welcome to every action manga ever written?
Except One Piece.
one piece also completely cuts out the training bits though so its a given take

well Doflamingo might have tied that up and thrown it out the window in all honesty
and Fairy tail is hardly a casualty of the skill ceiling, the first boss (gerard if memories serves) is still definently relevant there has hardly been a DBZ esque scaling since their opponents havent dont things that are obviously stronger then the previous tier of boss and more importantly the main character hasnt scaled like Goku did
DBZ-effect was because it was basically constant training arcs with each one ending in a clear powerup for the main character but FT has not had such power ups, they just beat someone strong then someone else strong apears, not someone else who is clearly much stronger then the last boss

The key to avoiding that is to clearly show that there are much more powerful people out there right from the start, which is what Oda did. Since Fairy Tail was supposed to end after 10 volumes... well Mashima didn't bother. Also you have to have a really good idea of where your manga is going to be able to do that.

Well almost no manga exhibit the DBZ-effect as strongly as DBZ did for obvious reasons. And I'd argue that old bosses still being relevant later on, or rather being powered up to be brought up to almost the same level as the new bigger badder boss is a symptom of the DBZ-effect.
Also I don't think DBZ-effect is a terrible terrible thing. It isn't ideal, but if you get a cool idea later on, its better to put it in and ask the reader to suspend their power level disbelief, than not put it in.

and hes continued showing how much more powerful people there are ever since

if old bosses are still relevant, then the power levels havent changed much which is the exact opposite of the DBZ effect
DBZ went from smashing rocks to smashing planets, FT hasnt done that at all
FT has established who the big baddies are since forever ago. No one has been "the most powerful new villain". They were all literally cronies and Mashima very clearly laid out the hierarchy of the dark guilds early on so none of them has really been a surprise really. Notice how after wiping out the last of the true dark guilds the baddies that they destroyed after that was a Rolf stomp? Because FT has systematically taken down the higher tier dark guilds. There hasn't really been a parade of "most powerful guy eva!" because we all know its Zeref and the Dragon King and it has been that way since basically the start.
If anything bringing in this other kingdom feels like a stall tactic because Mashima knows he has basically progressed through all the villians that were foreshadowed and apparently he isn't ready to end the series yet so off to play in a different country (while also probably getting another power up to beat Zeref).

Nope. Not if the old bosses become able to smash planets too.
Though on second thought, I guess I wouldn't call it a symptom either. It is simply a result of mangakas and writers in general wanting to reuse characters that have become fan favourites, and if the power levels have increased, the old characters power levels have to increased accordingly just to remain relevant.

weve only known about Zeref and Acnologia for like 2 arcs

They were both mentioned waaay before the Island arc when they made their 1st appearances.
But yea I do dislike reusing old characters. In FT's case its Jellal. Mashima really fucked his character over just to have en excuse to keep him around. He was soo cool once but as he is now he just brings himself down (and he drags Erza with him since Mashima has decided that they must have an angsty romance that no one needed or wanted).
