It might not be an issue in the limelight right now, but it is a very important issue. The issue is that western society has incredibly damaging ideals for what it means to be a man and a woman, and the fact that young boys and girls cling to those ideals as something to be attained and to measure ones worth against leads to a myriad of problems like losing ones self identity, an inability to express oneself emotionally, increased depression and emotional/behavioral problems and suicidal tendencies. I feel confident in saying that's why they ended the episode on such a dark note. They addressed the issue satirically because that's what they do with issues, but the consequences of this one are so grave that they showed just how shitty it looks in reality as best as they could. I think the fact that a strong character like Wendy buckled under the pressure is much more powerful than if she had just offed herself which could be viewed as comic hyperbole.

Most of the times, I feel SP will send a message by being ridiculous or by being funny. The ending was just plain, but powerful

Wendy tells Lisa Burger to be more self-confident but even she admits later that she thinks Lisa is fat and ugly. So yeah there are damaging ideals of beauty and self-worth promoted by pop culture but these ideals exist for a reason. It's very hard to balance the concept that you don't have to look perfect with the idea that you should still put some effort into your self-image.

Unatainably high ideals and standards are pretty much at the core of all western values.

I agree and I dont think that Matt and Trey are against Photoshop per se, but they wanted to display how helpless Wendy feels in this fight and that she doesnt know what else to do.

His scenes were the best. So totally random of him coming into Wendy's room in the middle of the night and no one bats an eye

While the media moguls in Sun Valley, Idaho, jockeyed for parking spaces for their jets and hunted for safe havens in a consolidating content world, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the boy-men behind “South Park,” were in Los Angeles, proving again that if you make content people love — it’s harder than it looks — it doesn’t matter how many paradigms shift. Onstage with Hulu at the Television Critics Association’s twice-yearly convention on Saturday afternoon, Mr. Stone and Mr. Parker announced a three-year deal that gives the service exclusive rights to stream the huge back catalog of “South Park,” which now consists of more than 240 episodes, as well as the current season’s episodes immediately after they are broadcast on Comedy Central. (Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone will continue to stream 30 selected episodes on their own site and host new episodes there, too.) The deal, worth in excess of $80 million according to a person involved in the negotiations, means Kenny and the boys will continue to frolic for years to come. It also points to a couple of broader trends that the titans at the gathering in Sun Valley might want to put on their agendas. (The actual creators of content have rarely been a big part of the guest list.) Source
