But all this Nahaz, "everyone needs to stfu about SA". I mean for the most part other than Infamous, most of the SA team is pretty much not as talented as other regions. There are a lot of people (esp on reddit) who were vocal that SA doesn't deserve a slot at all and the region is garbage and will always be garbage. Infamous getting top 8 is big and shows that the qualifier spot they got to majors/TI the past couple years was worth it. SA has always had talented players but when it came to LANs they'd often throw and lose because they just weren't experienced enough

Same story can be said about NA, or CIS. Both have only 1 good team and the rest is poop. Keep giving SA their slot and keep giving them a chance. 1 SA team making it to top8 at TI is a HUGE advertisement for the whole of Dota2.

MVP Phoenix made bigger marks and Dota is dead in Korea. SA did well enough, it’s possibly taken an extra year longer than it should have because of the match fixing bans.

Eh, probably just flexing a bit in the "support the scene!" narrative. One might also note that MVP.Phoenix and TNC have both done the same thing by getting top 8. But it is good for the guys involved. It's a life-changing amount of money.

The playerbase in SA is and was way bigger than Korea's ever was.

It was willing to do the work to win, not just "play dota". Same issue plagues most of the pub-heavy scenes. Other issue is that esports is rife with scumbags, so it makes growing things somewhat hard.

I know what you mean (since most of the NA scene has the same problem) but I wasn't sure how to word it.

What makes competitive Dota fun to watch is also the same reason the scene is dominated by the same captains. We joked about rOtk coming out of retirement to get his yearly paycheck, but the reality is that the willingness to do the type of work necessary to Win in the competitive scene is a skill set that's apart from hitting creeps. It comes down to changing a Game into a Job, and it isn't always the most fun.
