PPD did a WCA commentary thing from a team that decided to not go. Basically questioning why the scene knew WCA was going to be bad, but all decided to go, and it ended up being bad. Says players/teams need to come together and work with tournaments to get better tournament standards.
For some reason this is controversal on reddit because they still hate PPD.
I mean teams like leviathan are going to go to tournaments that offer that kind of cash regardless of potentially poor circumstances. Teams like secret are just morons whats new.

EE is arguing with PPD without actually addressing any points atm, but from what I can tell: EE thinks circumstances will improve just by voicing complaints while still going to bad tournaments PPD thinks leveraging the attendance of top teams to force better conditions is the better path
If top teams demand conditions or no attendance, WCA won't sustain off of China + Random t2 teams. Other Chinese tournaments will get the t1 western teams + chinese teams and investments will go towards them instead.
Both are going toward the same goal on different paths.
Well some teams were at WCA last year and at least EE seems to say that although the tournament had some issues then (I seem to recall network issues and whatnot causing delays), the staff was very friendly and it wasn't all bad. Hard to say anything about the communication teams had with the organizers this year but it doesn't seem that players who played there last year expected them to treat players terribly, for the hotel to be in the middle of nowhere 1 hour from the venue, etc. Had those players been treated terribly then they more than likely would not have gone this year. Part of the "controversy" is that PPD is talking like he knew what the tournament was going to be like while the players who were there last year clearly had a different expectation. He is talking as if everything about the event was terrible last year too and the players still went and are complaining again, which is not the case.
The "arguing" over twitter seems to be because PPD says EE was shitting on WCA already last year when he didn't really single them out as a terrible tournament. For example he criticized Summit 2 pretty hard and even mentioned EG being mad about the event back then, it doesn't mean that teams will automatically boycott it.
From my perspective the way the qualifiers were so spread out and how we only knew what teams were going to be attending like 1 week before the event made the event seem very questionable. And it also seems that at least in EG's eyes the organizers didn't seem competent at all when they talked to them which was a big red flag. But still I can see why from a player perspective you would go when you experienced an event that wasn't all bad by any means, you hope they are improving, and the prize pool is rather big.

They aren't even going to be getting t1 Chinese teams.

funnily enough neither of the current t1 chinese teams (vg, ehome) qualified for the event, which was held all the way back before ti5 with teams of different rosters. however if i remember correctly vg was supposed to replace a team but they chose not to and as a result vg got fined by ace.
i dont get what is so controversial about the video? i mean even secret hired someone to help them survive WCA which means they came expecting it to be shit. good heads up play by them but i mean what about the teams that didn't come prepared, or what kind of tune would EE be singing if they didn't have that hired person helping them out? to me EE is like the boy who cried wolf and in my opinion ppd is calling him out for it. EE is notorious for complaining about tournaments both on reddit and in interviews (i still can't forget his DAC and TI interview). inevitably it has gotten to this point where once he makes the smallest complaints people like ppd just tell him to stfu.
most of the video focused on discussing why EG didn't go WCA and what EG expected would happen if they went and at the end of the day EG was right. ppd has been taking a shit on t2-t3 american teams since TI4 so this is nothing new. PJSalt is back and i am glad.
There is nothing really controversial about it. Just PPD saying that EE was shitting on WCA already last year doesn't really seem accurate. He was talking about issues in all sorts of events, WCA hardly was an event rising above others as a bad one. If the experience for the players last year wasn't too bad even with the significant issues the event had, they will go again this year. But this year the event became far worse. If WCA happens again next year then I agree that you really should expect only the worst.
And I don't know who even is getting super upset and complaining about it publicly. EE has hardly said anything for example, Sunsfan etc. just talked about the event on their own show. Envy seems to be writing something but idk what he is going to be saying. PPD's sentiment that teams should not go to events they know are bad is fine. Whether that should have applied to WCA based on last year is a bit questionable. But idk what the parts talking about people getting super upset are even about.

Are there even any T1 Chinese teams?

Yeah, I'm a little confused on what PPD is even trying to say. "Don't complain if you go to an event that's likely to be bad"? Well sure, if people were saying "Oh woe is me, my life is awful, how could I have avoided this?" then that'd be fair enough. Maybe that is what people are doing in private. But as far as I can tell, complaints have been more "This was awful", not "This was awful and I had no way of knowing." If people were begging for sympathy then PPD would be fairly reasonable, but if they're just talking about their experience and saying how it could be improved and so on - what's the issue? The community is interested so people are talking about it.

I believe the point is, if you know it's going to be awful, go anyway, and it really is that awful, then maybe you should be proactively doing something to stop tournament organizers from being awful.
That's assuming the end goal is to stop tournaments from being poorly run, and not just complaining on twitter.

i think the issue is that EVERYONE knew that WCA was gonna to be poorly runned and they still went. its different than if someone went to MLG or the summit and it happened to be bad (ie not expected). i know last year they had a lot of complaints at WCA as well. its like saying you know the stove is hot and yet u still stuck your hand on it.

Good group of teams though so will be nice to see what strats they are using in the new patch.
Not sure either, but they got direct seed and im pretty sure it is confirmed that they will go there. Let's see how our boys in blue are doing in 6.86.
