No idea if it's being humble, realistic or cynical, but you have to respect someone that can be one of the most winning-est players ever and still have the mentality that his team can be better and do better. I really respect the way PPD deals with the team and is all about making them larger than the sum of their parts. Some of their plans don’t work out, but I like that he is always pushing them to try new things. And sometimes he says “Fuck it, lets draft sumail storm and just make this shit work.”

Aside from TI5 and DAC (which is somewhat valid because they are the most comparable to the current major) this "EG wins from losers" hasn't really happened much. They've lost from loser's as well as won from winner's in several tier 2 tournaments.

I think EG is going to beat OG and lose the Grand Finals against Secret... They lack that last bit of crispnes (if thats even a word?) in theier play, and its mostly because of the lack of official games imo. Unless ppd wakes up tomorrow with a masterplan :D

He interviewed this very Frankfurt how EG needs to lose and they're much stronger after dropping from winners. It's not just some EG meme, they genuinely play better after losing in double elim.

A bunch of pros have said that RTZ plays way harder after a loss. And that is pretty common for most sports too. There are lots of teams known for "being a threat from behind".

I think it is also the fact that they beat the team that sends them to the lower bracket the second time they meet. This also happened at WEC 2014 (lost to VG in the first round, beat them in the LB finals) and Starladder S10 (Secret beat EG in the UB finals, EG won the tournament). But yah it obviously doesn't happen 100% of the time.

Assuming EG beats OG, I'm curious what direction the drafts are going to go against Secret. The thing is that Secret went for Ember 1st pick + Mag to buff him up two times in a row. But the first game was very close, 2nd game Secret ended up losing. And then in the 3rd game they didn't go for Ember anymore and went for a different 1st phase entirely. I doubt we will see a single 1st pick Ember from Secret in the finals if they play against EG.
This is why I'm eager to see how the drafts will unfold. I don't think it is the case at all here that EG had to meet Secret once, get beaten by them and then they come back to beat similar strats they lost to. They already beat it in a sense, which is why I think Secret will not even try to go for the same style. EG may win sure, but whatever the result it's interesting to see what direction Secret will go for in the drafts.
Though I guess one shouldn't talk too much about it, there's still OG to play against first.

He has an ego just like many top players have egos.
But you can't be a top tier team winning tournament after tournament and not be able to self critique yourself so you can improve.
He has a lot of salt in him, but he doesn't suffer from hubris.

But they have also never won a major LAN tournament from Winners. And they have won quite a few LANs.
Losers bracket EG is very much a thing.

Can't wait to see Fear get a rampage on the newly buffed 6.85 Shadow Shaman, and for EG to destroy everyone at their first Major. Having considered it for a while, this was a very good prediction.

I hope EG sticks with this roster and works out the kinks. Minus the Tinker game I think they had a good chance of winning the games they dropped against Secret/OG. They just didn't seem to play at their usual level.

Don't see any reason to think EG will change their roster.
In the last 2 years there's only been 8 players on the team, and 6 of them are on the current roster.
And considering Mason was very much an official stand-in for an injured Fear, Aui's really the only player that was actually booted, and it had nothing to do with performance.

Oh well. wp to OG. it doesnt seem as bad losing to them now seeing they became the champs. good performance from the guys overall.

Yeah, I think they played a really good tourney! I'm excited to see what they will bring with the new patch, think the next biggish tournament is Summit 4? Hopefully Valve releases the new patch before then, it would be kind of lame to see it on 6.85.
GGs, EG hwaiting!

EG really dropped the ball last game, rtz getting caught out twice pants down and then the final base defense wasnt committed. i thought their games, especially their drafts, against OG were far better than secret's.
|
RTZ was really teetering on the edge when farming with how great alch' s pickoff-potential was. Did like their drafts more than anyone else's against OG, but that might just be my bias talking. Plz step your game up, EG!
