It looks like reports of EG's death were grossly exaggerated

TTTTTTOPPP 3 :D

Haha so good, we did so well not tilting out of it in game 2 vs NaVi and our team fights are back to what they have been like which is also perfect.
Going to be extremely tough vs Liquid tomorrow but these are the games we must win to get back to our best!

I loved that t3 dive on Crystallize, killing him ontop of t4 towers when t1 tower in mid is still up <3
The boys look so good all of a sudden... Great and entertaining games!

Liquid are going to be a real test, but if the drafts are on point the boys can do it. Crit and Fear seem to be meshing well as a supp duo, RTZ and Sumail also stepped up their game big time. And Uni is just doing Uni things

Thanks for this buddy, has been very useful. Always my luck to get stuck with weekend duty on the days of EG tournament games.

For me top3 is a great success this tournament... I was expecting them to need some time, and beating VP was a really good result for them. VP, Liquid and Secret are the top teams in the West.
Todays games vrs Liquid can go so many ways, Liquid have come back from losses hard before, winning games in 20 mins.
But I hope EG have the momentum from yesterday and give them a good fight!

Head 2-1 Liquid

EG gave a bit to much respect to Liquid it seemed... Played a bit nervous and didnt get enough out of the Sand King in the mid game.

Yeah not sure what they were thinking about during the early mid game when they went passive. Cr1t did have a stupidly early blink timing though he had it up way fast but they didn't see to do anything against PL until to late.

Well... this is what I was afraid of, Liquid often come back swinging the day after a loss... Incredible game form Liquid, Miracle is way to good with these mobile heroes...
Anyway, top3 is a good result atm for EG, and I think they learned alott from this, gg bleed blue!

I'll be honest, top 3 is better than I expected. Although... As big as an EG fan as I am... That was a complete stomp. What a thrashing wow. I notice they haven't been super aggressive towards the enemy safelane. Going by the games vs Secret and the games vs Liquid. It has ended up biting them in the rear in the end.
whats up?

Gg, don't think anyone would dream of a top3 finish even a few weeks back before the qualifiers

Shhh

In all honesty, I vastly underestimated Secret. Yes, they were on a hot streak, but I expected the Cty standin to kind of quench that. I had Secret below the likes of VP and Newbee.

Coming out 3rd, behind TL and Secret is be a major win.

Edit: I've just thought of something. In this tournament, EG finally defined their style and picked heroes to supplement that. Do you think part of EG's problems in the past year was that they tried too hard to innovate, e.g., to pick too many different heroes before their style was defined (to them)?

man what a fall from grace. i remembered when EG were the team everyone feared, and to see them beat like that is just whoa....out of all things to lose to a 4 protect 1 strat 2 times in a row, it wasn't even really a 4 protect 1 as miracle never was even pressured. i was more surprised when miracle had back to back kills on universe out of all people....
it happened not just in 1 game but both games in a row.

i really think it has to do with the picks, eg doesn't quite find their footing and their team composition doesn't allow for individual skills to shine. them not getting the meta is also affecting everything. its almost like because eg has such a powerhouse of a team, they expect to win every lane, but when one lane goes bad, everything starts falling apart. this is even more true for rtz, who i felt hasn't been a dominant carry at all....since he switched the mid role. with farm or no farm, he doesn't tip the scale in the team's favor....even if he gets farm he doesn't dominate everyone. its usually universe and sumail coming online and then rtz gets a footing, but if they don't, rtz is screwed. kinda hoping they get their dominant streak back.

secret is looking stupid good. i always had a sense that they were the type of team who kinda suffered like eg, power house players but failed short and it was rinse and repeat of this phenomenon, but it looks like they really found their footing especially the way they beat liquid.

One lost series (and to one of the strongest teams this year and the current TI champion) does not make a trend. Also I don't understand the hate on RTZ, in this tournament he was always the one who kept up with the opponents even if the team fell behind, and whenever he got a good start he got completely massive, getting like 5-6k networth lead over any other hero in the game. Also he had very few silly deaths.

Nothing lasts forever and right now EG are in this weird spot where they are still good, but no longer among the best. I'm sure thay can tighten their play and figure out the patch to the point where they can win tournaments. As the examples of Liquid and now Secret show, all they need is time and sticking together.

i agree. my sentiments among rtz are not simply due to this tournament but a pattern amongst all his tournaments ever since he had rejoined eg. he just doesn't appear dominant. his lead maybe massive but even then it's not great, if you compare guys like burning, rtz comes short in terms of massive leads in last hitting. if you compare the way miracle plays his carry role vs the way rtz does, you can see huge differences. and i make that comparison due to the fact both of them were originally mid players who transitioned to the carry role, i don't know how permanent miracles is though.

Yeah top 3 at a major, that is more points, beating some good teams along the way and then falling short vs Liquid. I think they have learnt so much about this patch in this tournament and gaining lots of TI points i can't see it being a negative tbh.
Now we need to build form here so the next time we face Secret and Liquid we are competitive against them build on that. Always the goal of being champion by the time TI rolls round :D

The Summit is much less stacked than DreamLeague, if they keep improving I think they have a decent shot at a win, or at least Grand Finals there. But I'll be so torn if they play against Kinguin

Haha! The format is so weird due to 9 teams. Doing 3 groups of 3! Win group = Semi Finals, then all 2nd place and best 3rd place into a play off to get 4th semi final spot :s
