So I know the EU is high on this Austerity thing, but ya all should give taxing the rich a chance. It will change your world.

And then someone convinced everyone that rich people needed that money to make more jobs, for reasons. And if we gave the money to the rich people, the money would travel down to middle class people and we all would get rich together. And for some reason everyone fell for it for like 40 years. It is such an amazingly terrible argument that even folks in the EU have started using it. And if we talk about making rich people pay more, we are big mean people for targeting them.

Alex Honnold is what happens when you don't teach your child how to interact with others and what empathy is, but it has a thoroughly kind personality. Fuck that's so big what he did.

In the US the conservative House of Representatives went after the IRS for political bias, but in reality they just wanted an excuse to make that agency scared of enforcing tax law. And cutting funding as well. I know this because we deal with taxable income all the time. All settlements we pay out are taxable. People are bad about claiming those funds during tax season. 10 years ago the turn around on someone failing to claim those funds and calling me to bitch about it was 1 year. In the year of our lord 2018 it is now 4-5 years before they get hit. So when politicians say “It is hard because people just avoid paying taxes on income and that is hard to stop,” my first thought is that they likely are not trying that hard to stop them. Or they are actively harming the agency with that job because whoever got them elected wants them to. This article in The Atlantic just came out today which matches with what you were saying. It's a concerted effort to hollow out and defang the institutions that would enforce it.
