And many, 2013 was a sad time when people couldn’t just embrace enjoying garbage. I’m kinda glad folks have moved past that.

A big problem with creative studios that get bought out is that their output becomes a lot more stale - fewer absolute bombs, but less chance of making something unique or taking any chances. Don't blame any of them that choose to get bought out though, game development has always sounded like a nightmare even before you have to worry about funding.

Don't blame any of them that choose to get bought out though, game development has always sounded like a nightmare even before you have to worry about funding. I am a bit mixed on it, but I would prefer the studio be more liquid in money and be able to pay people working on games. And both of the Pillars games suffered, in my opinion, from a bloat and a little bit of aimlessness. I would like to seem Obsidian refine that style of game without having to worry about kickstarter funding. Plus this is supposed to be focused on Microsoft’s PC games library, which is a good fit. On October 11 2018 01:41 PassiveAce wrote: Arnt most obsidian games successful? Pillars of eternity 1 and 2, same with the South Park games? They don’t bomb and turn a profit. But from my understanding the company has never been in a place where it could survive even a single game not being profitable for the studio. That isn’t a good place to be. But given the author of the series is helping make this TV series, this should have been an easy problem to figure out.

Sucker Punch Productions also good, also basically owned by Sony. Blizzard has been fine with Activision, though you might not like their games. Valve bought a lot of studios and people like the few Valve games that exist. And on the flip side, I know a lot of good video game companies that went out of business because a game or two didn't do great. From my reading, Obsidian might have ended up as one of those in the next 3-5 years. On October 11 2018 02:14 PassiveAce wrote: Microsoft funded the recent dragon age games ya? If obsidian gets to make a game with that kind of production value then I won't complain Oops nvm that was EA I want Dragon Age 4 real bad, but I am afraid EA has already murdered it. Dragon Age 3 was real good and that DLC just made me more than excited at the prospect of kick Solas in the head for an entire game.

They should do updates based on the patch history of WoW prime, including the amazingly buggy launch. They should start in the beta to really build it up, make people remember everything. Giving the experience to all new players that never managed to get there that early.
