extremely proud of comeh posting anti-depression advice
I think his advice is very good!!! And I'd like to echo the advice about a therapist in particular
I spent several years of my life insanely unhappy, some as an active alcoholic, some in recovery, and it took a long-ass time and a whole lot of work to get out of it, u got this homies

Also i agree with most of what comeh said (there is truly a comeh inside each of us)

I personally never truly have been able to deal with it myself. It never stops resurfacing even when i managed to break away from it(this started just a few years back up till now).
I already knew the way of thinking in order to get out of that mess but i still eventually end up in the same depressive period every other time. The sense of helplessness and futility still rips me apart. So is my advice truly reliable ? Idk but the way i break out of my depressive cycle everytime is that(others already mentioned a few of it):
1. Positive Mental Attitude. Not trying to meme you (it works on me at least). Even in the bad things that happen it's not just bleak things, every small little thing that is a plus is still plus. There's hope buddy whatever your situation is there is always hope.
2. Exercise. It keeps your mind out of things and the very activity of exercising means you are believing in yourself. Exercise is an act of improving oneself albeit physical tho there are the obvious happy hormones that is accompanied with. Proper sleep and diet kinda helps too.
3. Do something you like that keeps yourself busy. Basically a hobby that isn't related to whatever put you in that state of things. It takes your mind off things.
4. Talk with people. Meet new friends or well hang out with existing ones which you converse, laugh with and even some of them might be willing to shoulder some of your weight. One thing i noticed when i succumb into that shitty state again is that i ended up staying away from people more when i needed them the most. Don't stay away from people look for interaction, people are warm even when they can be cold they can still be warm and that's what matters.
5. Just do something (like others pointed out). The more you stay do nothing the more your self-loathing gets worse.
It's mostly the mindset that you are worth it and there is hope that pulls me out of that state but i still suffer from such every other time.

i've found exercise makes me feel a lot happier when things get me down

I've talked quite a bit about my being rather unhappy with work and the current situation in general.
What really bothers me about my reaction is that I've consciously decided to continue at least for this year to be able to go to Scotland with my wife. And this is a really nice opportunity that I won't get that easily again. That's why we took it. Having to move places the 6th time this year as well as a rather unstable work environment and usually being the calm and connected one in the relationship doesn't really help. Or having to undergo tooth surgery all of a sudden after managing to go climbing every 3 days on average there's a forced pause and break.
I really cannot wait for Friday. It's been like three or four weeks that felt like two months because every day was just full of things that were annoying.
I know that I'm super lucky actually to be able to do all the shit I'm doing /will be doing after Friday. This helped me through June and most of July, but now I just want to rest. Sleep really is so good damnnn important when you're down. I also tried the max 3hrs at home thing. Made me call a friend and we met with a 3rd guy from uni yesterday. Had a blast. Both of them had rather similar experiences at different points after uni. Definitely did help talking to them and being honest about being close to crying. Pretty sure I'm gonna do that in my wife's arms later on. Might also help to release some pressure. Thanks for all the advice.

mmmhmhm for the introduction of my paper, can i assume that caligula being crazy and nero burning down rome is both general knowledge? im sure nero would pass but im unsure about caligula
|
Caligula being a insane pervert is common knowledge but iv heard that some historians think that a lot of the stories about him being insane were made up by his enemies
In the USA more people probably know about caligula cuz they made movies about him but never did for nero

Well, who's your target audience? If you are trying to publish in a historian journal, everybody should know. Otherwise just mention both of them in a single sentence and add two references.
(Personally I have no idea who Caligula is, the name doesn't ring a bell at all.)
|
Caligula is one of the Gaulish war chiefs. Should've read more Asterix and Obelix
wait no that was someone else, I was thinking about Vercingetorix ma bad

(Personally I have no idea who Caligula is, the name doesn't ring a bell at all.) its just a paper in a seminar
and why im asking is im wondering if i need to quote it for my introduction or if i can pass it off as general knowledge basically my paper is about caligulas and neros relationship with the senate, in respect to the question whether or not theyre actually just completely mental or if theres a "vision" for both of them theyre trying to achieve by their actions, so im starting of in the introduction basically saying "theyre well known emperors who belong to the julisch claudischen dynasty, same as augustus tiberius and claudius, but none of them are as controversial as those 2 , who are known for being crazies
so basically my question is if i can pass it off as general knowledge so i wont have to quote that which i dont like doing in introductions
|
If your writing for an informed audoence you probably dont have to provide a quote for that.
|
its not about that, its about whether these facts are "thoughts that are taken from another author" or whether theyre "thoughts generally known" but i think since i specifically state that theyre "facts assumed to be the only truth" id say its safe to not quote

Got a few pics of the place and landscape if anyone else is interested: https://imgur.com/a/qNSxsi2
Lots of fun outdoorsy stuff to do and see. There are bears, moose, mountain lions, etc etc. Great place for hiking, fishing, all sorts of stuff. Plus its not too far from a nice college town.
Im more than happy to pick up anyone who wants to come to the meetup from the denver airport. If folk can cover travel, most/all other basic necessities will be covered

Permanent summertime would actually be useful here since that would give people like an hour of sunlight after school or work instead of eternal darkness. Either way I'm for just sticking with one of them all year because the current system is more annoying than useful.

Apart from the top 3 you can't tell who's gonna beat who before them. Even the top 3 doesn't have a clear favorite
Probably the most competitive TI since TI4 I think with no clear dominant team and the middle tier don't have a clear gap in performance as well
