To avoid looking insane I'll explain what I mean: at my old uni (not alma mater, the school I ran away from) they had places on campus where you could do a phone/Skype interview with a prospective employer. I think it was a place where you would be guaranteed to have quiet surroundings in case your house wasn't up to scratch.

Drugs (generally antidepressants) Exercise Experience a certain type of art. The kind that is either made by a very depressed person or that is so baffling it snaps me out of it (I tend to default to stuff like the last two episodes of Evangelion or Persona Trinity Soul, all of it. Still the most baffling thing I've ever watched). Generally get medical help from somebody. I'm kinda weird though.

Even just talking about day to day things can be helpful. If you have a good friend or two, feel free to try and talk out about your tough times to them. It can help. Push yourself to make small steps to do small things. Clean your room. Do the dishes. Take out the garbage. Eventually getting yourself into these habits makes bigger steps easier to accomplish. Go out shopping. Get some coffee and the local cafe and read a book there. Go to your local restaurant and eat at the bar. This may turn into more healthy habits and take care of yourself every once in awhile. See a therapist. 100%. The first one or couple you see might not be the right fit for you, so keep an eye on that in the first one or two appointments. It might seem scarier or intimidating, but its actually really easy to do and opening your mind to someone not tied to your life is very healthy. Sometimes, even on less productive sessions, its just a good self care habit, reminds yourself that you are actively working on yourself and that this is a reminder to keep on doing it. Cut down on alcohol / drugs as much as possible, if not completely. I quit drinking and even caffeine completely for a few months after my most recent episode. Consider antidepressant medication - while not the first step you should take, unless you know yourself really well, antidepressants can be a good tool if consulted on properly. You may want to wait on the recommendation of your therapist for this though. Some people have some side effects with medication, SSRIs are pretty mild in terms of side effects for most. If its situational depression, try to address some of the causes of it. If you hate your job, try to put yourself on the path to getting out of that job or transitioning into something else. Oh exercise can help some people. I do it, but that's more to maintain self esteem and get myself out of my house and around people (being around strangers is somewhat comforting). I'd recommend it, depression or not. Been there buddy, just takes a lot of effort. Remember that you are worth it, and that you are doing this for yourself to make your life better. Don't be afraid to take the first step.

An example of this is waking up every day new and saying to yourself, "Today is a new day.." etc.

Just change a bunch of small habits and before you know it these habits will actually make a massive overall change, and you'll start wanting to change even more important things (like eating right, working out, school/work stuff, etc).
