Prolly just my blood vessels that were at issue And the anesthesia was administered via the IV they'd already put in me, why the fuck would they poke another hole? It's their job to get the cocktail of potentially lethal drugs exactly right, and they did it perfectly I think that deserves commendation | ||

I only really had one bad experience with a needle. When I was 18, I ended up breaking/dislocating my middle finger at the middle knuckle, and reset it myself. I went to the hospital the next morning, and got an appointment for an xray and to get it looked at later in the week. When I was at that appointment, it seemed the doctor was in a hurry. In order to inspect my broken finger and be able to move it around, he needed to apply a local anesthetic first. This was done with a slightly larger syringe, applied between the knuckles of my index/middle fingers. The first time he tried, he wasn't paying enough attention and actually poked the needle through from the top to the bottom of my hand. His reaction was to say, "Oops", pull the needle back, and do it right the second time. It didn't really hurt much, I was just more surprised that he wasn't paying enough attention that that actually happened. At first I didn't actually think it went through, but after he was done, I looked and there was a small blood spot/scab on the palm of my hand, from where the needle broke the skin. | ||

and yes that is the context, part 2 was 10 years later (as specified by "intervening decade") and I was a model patient, no tensing of muscles at all it's just that my veins are bullshit for some reason yup agreed sorry about that | ||
