a bunch of states have already tried to ban it because of the children and how it'd be easier to get or abuse or something
I'm in agreement tbh kids should be getting booze the old fashioned way by paying hobos to buy them shitty vodka
also that powder must taste like garbage How do they powder it? Alcohol is an extremely volatile liquid at room temperature, IIRC (as opposed to a solute). So do they make it into a salt or something? no idea, for the most part I was just rolling my eyes at the "think of the children" aspect coming from congress although I don't believe the story actually explained how it worked
here's the story tho: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2015/03/12/392594219/powdered-alcohol-faces-hurdles-after-regulatory-approval

Pretty damn cool; I think it works in the same way that iron is suspended in hemoglobin.
But yeah, the argument against is just a little ridiculous. The only thing I can see going against the powder is that there's potential for dumb kids mixing all kinds of proofs and drinking things that are much stronger than they expect, which also applies to dumb adults (see: never ever drink the punch).

Powdered alcohol? Oh man what's next injecting marijuana?

came back from donating blood to encounter this
oh man rtz support

needles are terrifying how would you ever donate blood OH GOD
|
just intensely stare at it without thinking intensely about it
|
I actually have such an irrational fear of needles it is absurd
my sister does too. She screwed up a TB test when she was a kid because she struggled so much that she irritating the mark and got a false positive hahahaha
|
it helps when there's a pretty nurse attending on you .. just kidding
i wish that was the case my attendant is a guy .. well i pretended to be asking stuff to the pretty nurse nearby later like "what food am i supposed to not eat" or "how long will this take" "will removing of the needles hurt" you know dumb questions like that despite knowing the answer
i just yolo'd the transferring of the blood part doesn't hurt anyways
|
I used to utterly despise needles. I had to get some shots done when I was like 10-11 and it was one of the worst things ever. Fucking screamed like hell. I was terrified.
But in the intervening decade I've gotten good at it. Just turn your head away, and clear your mind, like you're trying to get off tilt. Focus on keeping your muscles relaxed more than anything else. It still hurts, but I can get through it fine.
That said...
FUCK was I displeased when the nurse needed like 3+ tries to get a fucking blood sample and another 2-3 to get the fucking IV in
|
Some people just can't, which is okay. Needles are certainly not for everyone. Really you just have to understand that it's going to hurt for a second and feel weird for a bit after that, but overall it isn't that bad.
EDIT: Horror stories like that 3+ tries to get it right make me cringe. That sucks.
As a side note, I don't ever recommend just giving platelets or blood cells. You actually can't imagine what it feels like to have your blood pumped back into you at room temperature.
|
I mean I didn't fucking SHOW it because he and later she was just doing his/her job(s) and I don't want to be that fucking asshole who makes it harder for the fucking medical professionals to save my goddamn LIFE but it wasn't something I was happy with
anesthesiologists were top notch tho, put me out perfectly for the appendectomy, essentially just blinked and surgery was over
|
Acritter one thing you don't know is that even anesthesiologists experienced a time where they are shit at using needles and had somebody to suffer whether i'd be just the practicum partners or real patients.
Everybody is shit at the start or at least has a hard time doing so. And there is no other place to have actual experience about it than doing it on real people.
You are probably just unfortunate that the one who handled you are the new ones.
