My two greatest moments of student teach was when another teacher mistook me for a student and tried to send me to the "office" and when I broke up a "fight"(threatening stand off until the bell ran) and the slow dawning of the students that I wasn't another student. Both were super gratifying. fights are super tricky. you can't really touch the kids or they can claim you tried to hurt them...but if you don't one of the kids could get really hurt. I've only broken up one fight. it was between two girls (the trickiest situation of all bc if you grab the wrong area when trying to separate them, you're out a job) and all I really did was shout "HEY WHATS GOING ON OVER HERE" and the aggressor scattered, not before breaking the other girl's nose. blood everywhere. that shit was brutal.

Because news at eleven, the game isn't balanced around that.

Yeah, this was two dudes who were getting ready to slug it out and yelled "Hey, what are you two doing?" and walked between them. But there what felt like a super long pause where they both just stared at me, clearly trying to figure out what would happen if they took a swing. This was in shitty schools in Worcester(shitty city in the center of MA). The two of them would have likely kicked my ass if they put their mind to it. It was after that day I always carried my briefcase and wore a blazer so I didn't get mistaken for a student. Its all judgment calls. If someone is going to get seriously hurt, you need to do something.
