I only like gritty reboots of series that don't need gritty reboots. Waiting for the Mega Man gritty reboot where he is all gray and brown. Just go listen to the Protomen and/or read their lyrics. It's pretty much grimdark mega man in song form.

I mean yeah we all love AoE2, DoW, or whatever our pet RTS is, but none of them hold up as well as SC2 & BW. War3 is better than SC2, if only because War3 custom games are miles ahead of SC2's. I mean, War3 customs lead to DotA after all.

Movies take a step down and also have the visuals and audio. Games take another step down and also has gameplay. For each additional thing you have to include, the story will end up suffering. But that doesn't mean that all video games have terrible stories. Some stories might end up being simplified or not carry the same depths the medium of for example books are capable of having but that doesn't make them bad or terrible. I compare game stories to other games and look at how entertaining/interesting/immersive they are. You are not wrong that games get a lot of their emotional impact out of their stories by giving the player agency in them. Its why games like Uncharted are so enjoyable, because they are like taking part in a great Indian Jones film. But even the best video games stories pale in non interactive comparisons to the their contemporaries in their given genre. but games are greater than the sum of their parts, so its to be expected. Also writing has limitations when the player has agency in the story. Don't get me wrong, I love video games with a great story. But I also sort of know how far the medium has to go on that front. That's a good thing, it means they can only get better as the people creating them mature. And we get more cool games like Bastion. first example that comes to mind they spend a lot of time in the later books to find some items to kill the horcrux when some half wit just use a fire spell and the ginger finally remember they killed a basilisk in the second book

The thing though is that the game was fun, and playing SC2 I just never got that feeling. It was very mechanical, very much a do this thing, and then do this thing, and then finish with this. IMO it's that feeling of everything being super weak. Nothing felt strong, it was just a matter of 'well this isn't complete shit, so I guess I'll use that.'

The reason it got published was because one guy let his daughter read the first chapter after which his daughter then began demanding the next chapter.
