You know you can upgrade weapons by selecting the placeholder that appears after you pick up a weapon in the courtyard yea? Also enemies take +50% damage if you hit them with a cast and have boiling blood maxed. Very important against bosses.

The plot was so thicc (there were well over a dozen moments where I noted down "the plot thickens") I was scared it would get a lethal clot or a heart attack. Impressively, it managed both. Unsatisfying payoffs. Ending too late. Outcomes being only explainable by incompetence or temporary insanity. I was starting to wonder if they haven't yet invented good endings in the sixties. So I looked into it and it turns out the guy used random chance an ancient Taoist divination method to decide the outcomes of crucial plot elements. And boy did it show. I don't even mean that some things make absolutely no sense or some setups just never have a payoff (I assume the foreshadowed attempts failed offscreen). The emotional trepidations of characters in many ways are either counterintuitive or overexaggerated, with one character quite obviously being just shoved aside because the Oracle decided to backpedal on everything. And I could sense a low investment of the author in the events as there was very little care to properly build and release tension, with many impactful events blurred by the POV being delirious, which was probably a desperate attempt at making the random outcomes somewhat believable, even if the emotional distress was mostly justified. There was also a lot of explicit racism (to be expected, the Nazis won) and implicit sexism (to be expected, a male wrote the book). I would have loved to see the society in this alternate universe explored a bit more in depth. It was in the background, where it belongs, but unfortunately that background was also blurry and monotone. + Show Spoiler + Overall I give this book a 4 on the Wong-Baker Scale

The lies by the government and "press", all swallowed by Germans, the reality twisting bad faith in negotiations. They feel a bit too similar to the USA today than I'd like to admit. Germany didn't have free press for six years and people were practically indoctrinated for all that time. And we all know with what zeal we rushed into the later stages of war, when it seems fascist Germany was winning. This boundless and blind obedience to the Führer shines in some Donald trump supporters. I know nothing about OANN but I sure hope that they won't just become a willing platform for this type of indoctrination. Not to speak of the narcissism. Though that is not unique to both.
