Some would. Others would rage about you taking their denies

If you want someone to learn fast then shove them solo mid every game. Just be prepared for some excruciatingly painful games.
Also, I think everyone who wants to play on a team should play hard carry for at least a short duration of time at some point.
After reading about Drums/Yasha/Diffusal on Spectre somewhere here on these forums I decided to try it out. It's fucking amazing - no more ultra fragile 30 mins afk farm, just popping into teamfights and killing shit. Can't remember who posted about it, but thank you sir for this awesome build.

Wut? o.O 2009 is when I started, and I've known who spiritbreaker is from the start..

I definitely would if you did all the jobs support has and took 0 lasthits, we could carry these games so easily.

Btw you ideally have Radiance before 17min so it's not exactly 30min afk farm

Ideally...yeah. I've had very few games where I could farm for the first 20 minutes, and the last was no different. Solo Spectre vs Puck/Disruptor meant I had no farm whatsoever. >_>
And it is ~30 minutes, because Radiance won't help you survive.
I would say anyone that plays on a team should try to learn every single position, at least the basics. Being on the other side of the lane will help you learn what the other team is able to do to you much better than just watching them from your own point of view. Exclusively playing a position is fine if you have fun with it and that's all that you want, but it's definatelly not the best way to learn the game.

That would be kind of hilarious to type that in chat before a game starts.

imo if you're a beginner then you should just play whatever hero but farm like you're a carry. Learning how to last hit/deny properly is an essential skill even if you're want to play primarily support. It also helps with awareness and knowing when and where you can farm without getting ganked, assuming the opposing team does gank.
Realistically speaking supports taking ZERO lasthits isn't typically optimal. Hopefully you can get lasthits from pulls but if pull camp is blocked, can't afford counter wards or wards, no kills in lane, it's ok to take one or two lasthits. If you play dedicated support with a dedicated carry player and you let the carry player know you need 3 ck for boots they will usually let you. The important thing really is just communication - if those 3 ck were the last parts of his battlefury/relic and he might die then yes he needs them.
There are something like ~8 creeps a minute for the first 10 minutes, a good carry typically doesn't need 80 ck at 10 minutes. (there's more than 80 creeps, it just starts at 4 per wave then goes to 5 per wave, especially counting siege units).
A support needs money for a few basic items -early tp scrolls, wards, stick, boots (in basically that order of importance - a counter gank tp from a support is generally going to be worth more than a magic stick or boots, though wards may be of more importance).

For real though, please don't farm like a carry if you are not a carry. PLEASE. There are enough supports like this already, don't give people ideas.

Agreed about solo mid.
I think playing hard carry is good for someone who is already comfortable with the game flow and teamfight mechanics and can judge what fights they can and can't win in the vast majority of situations. It's just for someone starting out, it's not a good place to start learning.

17 minute Radi is assuming you get nothing else but Radi and upgraded boots. Realistically if you plug slots with items for laning/surviving ganks, 20-23 minute Radi is more feasible. And Spec gets Radi to farm, so realistically she still needs at least 1 fighting item (Heart, Manta, or Diffusal) before really being comfortable teamfighting after that (obviously Ultimate lets you contribute to fights as they happen) so its still 25-27 minutes before you really come into your prime.

that is a terrible, terrible attitude to have when solo-qeuing matchmaking and will cause an enormous amount of hate towards you, and propably justified. i rarely flame, but when last guy picks another carry to the 2 or 3 we already have, im loosing it, because there are few things to do in this game more selfish. and thats coming form someone who prefers to play carry himself.
As much as this attitude sucks, I can understand where he is coming from. I usually only play pos 1/2 heroes, but will fill in with whatever is needed if I take to long with picking. The problem is that I've always played like that, I'm fucking awful at everything else and I don't like it either. At times it's actually worse for the team whenever I pick a support over a carry evem thought it would fit the lineup more. I'm just that bad at it.
The entire qq-thread or matchmaking whine about onesided games could be related to stuff like me playing support roles.
Not sure if it's got to do with the pathing, but my creep blocking in DotA2 sucks compared to DotA1 Idk why, i always felt it was a lot easier in DotA1.

Support says they need 3 lasthits and they suck at lasthitting and take 10 creeps to get the 3 lasthits - Do mind.
That's true. Most support heroes have bad animations but most support players have adapted to them if they're dedicated support. Also, if you're playing with someone who you've played with for a few hundred games in that role then they won't mind setting up last hits for you and will expect you to help set up last hits for them in general too(especially under the tower).
Plus there are some CK that the carry just won't be able to get (two creeps about to die simultaneously, or melee carry and ranged support where creep would be denied by opponents). Carries raging about these CK being taken just get muted instantly by me.
When I play in low level games with new friends and the pub carries miss every lasthit and I take them after they've missed and they rage, I just don't know what to say. There's no way to politely tell them they suck at last-hitting. It's really rare I play that scenario, but I know there are plenty of support players stuck with carries like that (probably the majority).
Funniest thing I've ever seen to make up for bad lasthitting though - hatchet exort invoker.

17min Radiance in a pub is pretty exceptional unless you are stacking.
Even after Radiance you'll need at least a Diffu and the a Heart/Manta etc.
