Phase vs. Treads on SF isn't just a simple question of boots choice, because they accompany completely different paths of item development. Treads is followed up directly with BKB. The combination maximizes your straight survivability off your first 2 items, and is suited for games where you expect to jump into immediate teamfights. Phases is generally coupled with Janggo, to give you chasing power, and immediate right click damage. You sacrifice a significant amount of up-front survivability for its benefits. Its suited for a gank-oriented tempo or a long farming phase, as you should still not expect to teamfight effectively before you get your BKB. It's not an issue of just player preference. Each route of item development fits a different sort of game tempo.

Any idea why DK banned Pudge in the first ban phase in all 3 games instead of growing a pair of balls? I haven't watched any of the Navi pudge games, but surely a hero like Pudge is nothing more than a gimmick cheese strategy that has no chance of succeeding if you know it's coming? I mean there's a reason that this hero isn't used in competitive play. Instead DK got so obsessed about banning pudge that they let a Lycan through in games 2 and 3 for Navi to pick up. Especially in game 3, giving Lycan to the dire side really fucked them up. In what universe would you rather play against a Lycan than a Pudge? ![]()

Because he knows what they will do. And that would be the optimal decision, meaning that if they give him Pudge, they can't make those optimal decisions that have become second nature. They have to work around it, which might cost them.

Guess only way is to take the survey or see if anyone is selling than correct? You can buy keys from valve as part of the dota2 bundle (the Valve complete pack is $99, but that includes their other games. The dota2 bundle is $30, which is a key +some other cosmetic items). It is far cheaper to trade for invites, however - they are about $5 worth of items (keys), depending on who you find. Chinese gameplay tend to be more of the "Let's group together and fight"... and pudge is the ultimate counter. since he can hook 1 of them and totally put their formation in disarray.

He just alters the playing field so much, I'm pretty sure DK just didn't want to have to deal with being uncomfortable on the map like that in such a vital game.
