nice, thanks, dotametrics is always interesting

We're doing the "Grandmaster understanding of the game but don't play enough so I am just Silver." in Dota now as well?
|
But still, wouldn't the best way to climb be: Get good with the high impact mids? This article only says you aren't going to be inflating your mmr by picking them.
|
Has Dota ever worked any other way?

There's a diference between taking it too far and accepting that a person that reads about the game knows a bit more than someone that doesnt. And the average Dota player just plays the game and doesn't even read changelogs. So anyone reading this probally knows more than the Aghs Gyro player that plagues low level games, even if they are not better than them.

My understanding is great when I am watching, but total trench level when I am playing. My MMR is shit and I'm likely right where I belong. Although I have super bad luck with team mates DCing lately.

As someone who rarely plays anymore I find most of the issues I have are with moment to moment decision making and not with 'mechanics'. And the issues I have with mechanics are more around things like map awareness.

I mess up lasthits. I fail creep aggro things. I whiff stuns. I doom creeps.
I mean, yes i also have no map awareness, I panic in teamfights, i make bad positioning decisions, etc.

DP's a good one for winning pubs. I usually like phase + drums if we're winning and have a good early/midgame team, you can just run over the enemy team and towers. If we're losing and have a late-ish team, I like mana boots + euls. Just splitpush, stall, farm jungle for ages with all that mana.
But the best pub hero now is Wraith King, imo. It's really easy to first pick him. You can position 1, support or even jungle him. You can go a lategame build with midas, or aggressive with blink first. Pub people are usually pretty bad at playing around his ult, because coordination is overall worse obviously. It's also hard to counter pick him, some people will go antimage or pl for the mana burn, but these heroes suck in pubs, so it's not a big deal. Beside that, wk with blink is pretty scary for them early on, he can gank them really easily.

I think the mechanics/knowledge thing is more prevalent for me in CS:GO.
Like I played CS at a high level for many years, so my movement / map awareness / predictions of enemy movement is very good. But the combination of not having played and the changes they made in GO means that I can't shoot for shit.
But in Dota I find that last hitting is pretty much as good/bad as it always was.

I sheeped and dagon'd a creep as tinker a few days ago. Was funny to be honest.
|
Well, tinker's entirely too many buttons for me I don't even bother trying anymore (helps that my actually skilled friend is a tinker player lol).
|
I feel tinker is the hardest to play with soul ring, lategame when i've sold soulring it becomes a lot easier. I mess up with soul ring often for some reason, forgetting to use it before rearm or using it right after i started rearming for some reason so i cancel my rearm.
Then after i've sold it it's like everything is 10 times easier.

Having alt-hotkeys for items like in HoN is probably not helping, although I know a lot of pros have that as well and it doesn't bother them too much.
