Man I remember the old days when his stream only had 60 people. You couldn't even switch stream quality and got stuck with the best quality.
My internet sucked back then.

The reddit bans are weird. I thought it was happening all over reddit, but apparently it's mostly just /r/dota2. Maybe it's working differently in other subreddits, I dunno.

So lets review

Mali (2p), Neil(dota cinema), all of ongamers, now LD and Godz can't post there or risk a reddit wide ban, apparently some of GG net

i have to wonder

whats their endgame?

People don't go to reddit for its circlejerk of a community, i actually think that reddit is really bad for real conversations, because dissenting/alternate opinions just get drowned out and pushed to the bottom, or even outright auto-filtered. And even though thats not how the up/down vote system is supposed to work, thats how it does work.

whats the endgame in preventing Ongamers from being directly linked in a post, most people i know don't hop onto reddit to engage with its 'community', we go because we want to have all of the -content- that people make for a particular thing, for instance, -dota-, all in one webpage.

leddit was never a good site for self-promotion because of the rules, esports scenes tried to grow a lot of esports on top of audience from Reddit interest despite these rules. I guess Dota and OnGamers content spam was the last straw.

I don't think it will stop affected subreddits being used by posters to maintain them as game hubs, but hopefully journalist and organiser people will stop looking up to Reddit as a site to pander to for easy audiences. I for one am happy for Reddit to stick to their guns because it can also apply to viral marketers for other content.

I'm also looking forward to a move away from Reddit because because it's horrible to read, navigate, has a disgusting audience (like most popular things) and is generally a bad site, in my opinion.

It's a pretty vicious circle. As Reddit becomes more and more dependent as a hub for all game-related content, the more people will huddle around it and the more sites rely on Reddit to promote their shit.

Then people start relying on those sites to post their shit on Reddit whether something worthwhile comes up and needs attention.

There's a pretty easy way for reddit to fix this issue.

Allow subreddits to just toggle site-wide shadowbans on and off for non-criminal rule breaks.

It would mean that the subreddit mods have a lot more work to do, but it's not like they do fuckall in /r/dota2 anyway.

It seems highly unlikely that they would have been banned, if there was no vote manipulation going on, and it is not like /r/dota2 lost any quality now that those are gone.

Well if this would stop people like LD/Ayesee from posting their own stuff then it would lose a lot of quality.

Because the organisations that make the content are the ones that put the most work into the posts on reddit. So you know you can find all the relevant information in those posts. While, the way it used to be before organisations did this, you'd have people like me posting that stuff on reddit. Which means you end up with a similar situation to TL LR's, where some are great, some are rubbish. Some are accurate, some are not. And the people with all the information, aren't the ones communicating it to the public.

If the selflinking is gone there is no point of reddit, it's only good as conatainer, formatting and upvoting system make is way worse than forums for discussion

But with the exception of the ongamers ban which affects League too, these content creator bans don't seem to be affecting other subreddits.

Well maybe it isn't so bad now, but it certainly was for quite a while after TL started doing Dota.

But I wouldn't expect Reddit to be the same way because the information in a lot of those posts aren't all public, they serve as both announcements and references. And there is no expectation of quality on Reddit, the thing that will get upvoted will be the first one, not the best one.

There is absolute no reason to assume that self posts are affected by that. There is only LD twitter post, which is most probably just him completely misinterpreting what is going on.
