played phoenix a couple of times and i think he is really strong won most of my games with him in offlane (played him like 10 times). In a pub game assuming you have 2v2 or 1v2 lanes you can completly shut down a melee carrys farm because spirits are ridicilous, they have to move close to get last hits and that is a very easy opportunity to hit your spirits if you hit them twice they usually have to salve up already.

/E i can see why people hate him.

Phoenix is actually totally broken currently, they need to nerf how strong the spirits are early.

They literally just nerfed the attack speed slow in the last patch. Before you had -140 attack speed at EVERY level.

He's a pubstomper though, he beats uncoordinated teams. But overall he's nowhere near 6.79 Kaolin/Brood or 6.78(?) Spirit Breaker or even 6.76(?) Drow Ranger.

Personally I think the ult is the biggest pubstomp factor.

It places an enormous coordination burden on the other team. Five random people need to simultaneously decide to attack it, ignore it or run, and if they pick different things they just straight-up lose the teamfight. That kind of decisionmaking is nearly impossible for pubs.

Spirits are strong, but I don't think they're too strong. They at least only give 1.5/5 of your heroes a hard time.

in the early game they're fucking insane

they're fine later on

Smart use ult is really hard to deal early on but becomes more manageable as the game enters late. even dumb Phoenix players will not die in the off lane though because of how safe her dive is.

if your decent enough with this dumb bird, you will not only win the offlane but dominate the 1v2 against almost every hero out there

Both being dumb, but at the end of the day I hate how Tobi and Capitalist pretend they know something about the Chinese teams, or even worse - when they explicitly state they know nothing. I don't think it takes away too much of your time to, say, research/click links about the teams and watch a replay or two. I mean, it's your job. If a lawyer like me working 12 hrs a day can watch Dota, so can they.

Except Tobi usually spends about 90% of his time casting.

The guy spends like 10+ hours a day casting. Out of all the criticisms you could do, that seems the least valid.

Because Synderen knows things, and Tobi knows he knows things enough to defer to him. The knock on Tobi is pretty frequently that he's wrong about stuff, and that comes out much more when he's either solo casting or with another commentator. When he's working with a current or former pro - Maelk, Synderen, even sneyking - he defers much more, refrains from offering judgements without qualification and asks many more questions. That lets him do what he's best at, which is screaming things, without having to offer judgements that he's still not really good at making. Aysee is similar, though he's not as good at deferring on knowledge points as Tobi is.

That would be true a few months ago when he was doing everything by his lonesome, but not anymore.

it still seems invalid, out of all the casters tobi has put in the most time even when you condense it to a small frame in time

I think one is an outgrowth of the other. Tobi will introduce a topic then ask his former pro partner a question, the pro will answer, and then Tobi will offer his own opinion if there's time. If not, he moves on to the current thing in the match. Aysee more often than not will give his thoughts, then ask his partner. So he'll interrupt himself to do play by play on something then finish his thought, which puts his partner in the position of talking while processing new information. The sequencing also makes it sound like Aysee is talking more than he really is.

Topic -> question -> answer -> opinion -> action is much more streamlined than topic -> opinion -> question -> action -> answer.
