The divided MMR between stacks and solo is going to be interesting. I assume a team of 5 randoms with high enough MMR to take on a full stack of friends would be a pretty even match, even if the individual skill levels were not the close. It should be very unlikely that 5 randoms face a 5 stack. It definatelly doesn't happen often at all right now. And the separation from solo MMR and party MMR probally already exists. It makes sense from my personal experience at least, and it's unlikely they would add such drastic change as soon as they introduced Ranked. It must have been already tested. I just don't think the MM would let a stack go against 5 solos unless it ran out of option. The magic behind match making will likely never be known to us.

"Players’ language preferences contains a common language. Lack of a common language among teammates’ language preferences is strongly avoided. Lack of a common language across the whole match is also avoided, but less strongly."
So is this a new thing they're doing or are they pretending this works in the old mm?

ahye, about time i guess. GD is getting repetitive these days anyway so i welcome the incoming chaotic e-peen fights. Thank god they are going to have this solo queue MMR so the e-peen fighting games will not be too easy.

Clearly psychic and knows exactly what other players put as their language preferences.

edit: I feel like we've had this discussion before...Quick. Jump ship before Yango finds us!

I don't think that is enough to tell you whether or not this was a factor in the current matchmaking.

It will avoid people profile snooping just to freak out and claim you should be position 5 and buy wards all game.

Reading through this blog..I would not want to be the guy who's responsible for that algorithm.
"We used a statistical tool known as logistic regression, which essentially works by trying to create a function that predicts the odds of victory. This function contains several coefficients which determine the MMR bonus given to players in a party. Then we use numerical techniques to solve for the coefficients that produce the function which is most accurately able to predict the match outcome."
uhu, mhm. yes. I know some of these words..!

Math is Stronk and will lead to better Dota. Fucking high level math done by robots.

uhu, mhm. yes. I know some of these words..! To be fair, the only technical term is "Logistic regression". The rest is just basic terms like "variable" that anyone that did anything involving math should be used to.

It was a joke. I didn't literally mean I only understood some of the words.. Doesn't mean I'll have any hope to ever understand the implementations of the algorithms they're using.

so the hot topic right now is: should techies be global banned in ranked match making. YOLO DISCUSS.
+ Show Spoiler +on a more serious note, with this ranked thing, more people will vote for TB instead of techies... me sad panda

Hmmm, do we need to play 150 games in ranked mm or do we enter with our current casual mmr?

It even says this:
When you first start using ranked matchmaking, you will enter a calibration phase of 10 games. During this time, your ranked MMR will not be visible. So 10 games.

Ok, smaller number but my question still stands, our current casual mmr will be the base of our hardlyfe mmr and it will just fluctuate for 10 games before settling down or we all start from a fixed number and the system tries to categorise us in said 10 games?

Don't think they specified that, but it would make sense that they would take into account the old MMR. It could be a bit more volatile though, so it adjusts faster if there is any change. Resetting the MMR for literally everyone seems kinda silly.

given how it works in sc2 when they reset the beta into real game phase, the calibration will be a mess in the first couple week anyway. Everyone will calibrate at the same time which make the calibrate matches inaccurate and these error will later be fixed in the long run. If you really care about your e-pen, i suggest to wait a bit before trying.

There's no reason why it wouldn't adjust itself later on when things calm down, so I don't really think you need to avoid playing if you care about it. Just accept that the first few games may not be ideal.
