Alliance + Na'vi shouldn't come. MLG should be fostering NA scene not having europeans come over to "legitimize" a tournament that is already legitimate.

besides, you don't drop 50k on a prize pool without bringing some serious teams in

I'd love to see a cali team, arizona team, Vancouver team, midwest team, southern team, northeast team, Toronto team, A Foreign (NON NA) team.

I don't see how that would be a success. It would for sure not attract a very large crowd because of mainly two reasons: the players being unknown and the skill level being fairly low. Just look at the SC2 national leagues.

I have to say that I'm not impressed at all with the skill level of these two teams and I probably won't watch this tournament anymore.

There would be similar annoyment if Starladder was composed of DK iG Tongfu LGD.cn, EG, Mouz and random Russian teams x2 from the start. Any MLG events this upcoming season that end up with non NA vs Non NA in the finals are absolute failures to do what needs to be done in the NA scene. they might as well just be the defense.

MLG is quite frankly doing the best thing for the NA scene. They're holding an amateur qualifier, even with a Lan at the end, which isn't necessary. (technically it's a full tournament, not even a qualifier) And then let them compete against the best at the end, which is where those teams will actually get some attention because no one gives a shit about amateur NA teams playing against eachother. This is if anything an easier format than StarLadder for amateur teams, because in SL you have to consistently beat all the top EU Teams (and there used to be NA teams) to get to the Lan. And of course that's where MLG gets most of its profits from. People wanting to see those teams, people wanting to buy tickets for those teams. If you think you can just hold NA events and eventually enough fans will come to sustain your business then I don't know what to say, there's no guarantee of that and it would take a very long time of being in the red. The correct solution is to do what MLG is doing, both. If you expect all of what MLG does to be a 'na dota charity tournament' then you're delusional. If they were only doing Lan's with a bunch of invited teams then you might have the right to be pissed off. But at the moment, you just sound like an ungrateful prick, considering they are doing a lot for the na scene already.

They have several qualifiers and then let the winner of them play against some of the best teams. Seems like a good build up for some story lines. It gives the upcoming teams a shot to play against some of the well known teams in a lan setting and even if they loose the tournament should still be interesting simply because there are some good competitors in there. So all in all solid list.

But at the moment, you just sound like an ungrateful prick, considering they are doing a lot for the na scene already. Having Na'vi/TL/EG/Fnatic/alliance play each other in an event does absolutely 0 to promote the scene only promote profits for MLG. when you have half of the pool of teams be from out of NA and over half be well established teams, you will see the matches be similar to: Na'vi Vs newbies Alliance vs Newbies Fnatic vs Newbies TL vs EG That fourth game is doing nothing to promote the scene and reasonably should be considered the favorites in an NA event. The newbies all get cut out by playing against teams that outclass them immediately and then fall to losers along with EG/TL who will also stop them immediately. They learn nothing about how strong of a team they are, and only one of the teams has even a chance to place in the top 6. Why should I or anyone else in NA form a team if the only system we have to compete gives us no chance of paying out. why should we travel to a LAN across the country on our own dime since we are without sponsors just to be eliminated by a team that hardly lost a game in the highest skill level event in the world. When you went to korea to be a BW pro, you didn't get put against the best in order to compete. you played and struggled against many other players who have yet to break in, and then you had to work your way against the top players by beating other people who made it in. Without a motivation to compete, teams won't form, and MLG will be dominated by foreign teams and TL/EG inevitably. With only 3 teams being TL/EG+1 foreign team, the tournament could have 5 "newbie" teams TL vs Newbie Foreign vs Newbie Newbie vs Newbie EG vs Newbie TL then plays the foreign team EG plays the newbie team in the top 6, and the payout range is the top 3 newbie teams and the 3 favorites. The guaranteed payouts bring the favorites back for more, allowing newbie teams to test against them, while also being in the running to pay for the cost of travel to these events, provided you can beat the other semi pro teams. You don't teach a kid how to play basketball well by sitting him on the bench after the pre season.
