rofl, apparently blizzard think that pro = unlikely to have bad behavior eh.

interestingggg

wait it also says the average skilled players (and assuming near 50% players are average at the game) have the worst behavior of all players??? So naive volvo, so naive. Hope they dont make MM with similar thinking behind this graph....

i actually think thats accurate.

The people who flame the most tend to be people who are bad enough not to know that they're bad

This would surprise you? There's a reason MOBAs have such a toxic community: The bad behavior players almost outnumber the manner dudes. The logic behind the graph makes sense as well, you're not going to blame other people if you know you're terrible, and you're not going to need to whine as much when you're good enough to carry anyone and have gotten that good because you realized you have to focus on your own mistakes. People who don't realize they are bad (and think they are matched with players far worse than them) are always the worst flamers, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was close to 50% of the players.

That depends on how do you separate the players from different skill levels, 25%low25%high50%average or more realistically 10%low10%high80%average. And it also depends on the definition of 'bad behaviour', flaming/griefing is a thing, playing like a russian is even worse than that (no offense but i couldn't find a better word to describe, most of us eu players know what it means so let's not quibble over semantics here xD).

And if people didnt see how pro players rage so damn in their games then i dont know what to say.
reminded me of this related video:

rofl rotk cant do that now in the booth xD

No I didnt mean that i dont agree on 'majority of average players tend to behave badly in game' (nor i agree on that) but there are simply too many exceptions in that assumption (eg 'most players barely talk in a game'). People with bad attitude/behavior will tend to behave badly in their games, it is that simple and that's why i said that it is naive to have a graph like that behind their thinking/designs.

i dont think anyone in the history of dota has ever reach the right side of the graph, most are still somewhere middle.

What?

People who yell: Chuan, ROTK, Ferrari, dendi, xboct,.... If you think good conduct goes with high skill level, you are having a huge misconception about the game.

People in general tend to think overrate themselves. It's embedded in their psychology. Interestingly enough, the wiki suggests that the reverse may be true in East Asia.

It's only in team games where the more immature people have the opportunity to actively express this delusion.

I don't think i've ever played an online game where Dunning-Kruger is more pertinent than in dota. It obviously has to do with the game design more than anything else since bad team mates actually help the opposing team even more than in other games and winning the game alone is a difficult task (assuming the enemy team is near your skill level).

The graph is pointing out a correlation, not showing a rule. I actually agree with the correlation.

I'd like to add that it is not Dunning-Kruger every time. You do actually meet players below your skill level, and for some players (including myself) may give complaints rather forcefully during a heated game. That being said, I don't deny it exists - it's just I have played 2k games soon and I still get supports that don't ward, carries that don't farm, etc. I am good enough to know that I suck, but unfortunately I am also good enough to be annoyed when people play like idiots.

I'd say it's far worse in LOL because it's the same as Dota but individual skill makes less of an impact and it's far harder to come back. If your solo offlane feeds in Dota 2, you can still win if you play a high impact role, either as mid and you focus on counter-ganking, or as a hard carry owning them later. If your Top in LoL feeds badly, you're going to have a terrible time since snowballing heroes can become ridiculously strong, you can't really do much if you're playing the AD carry and a fed pantheon jumps on you with his ulti, even if you're under tower.

The problem with Dota is that the skill is so concealed. If you're bad, you can't tell someone else is good. If you don't have good map awareness, you can't appreciate someone else being good at it. If you just move around the map randomly, you assume others do it too, and if he gets away form a gank you just think the enemy is lucky, same goes for all decision making as a whole. If you compare it to rts and fps games, the difference is obvious - if someone is really fast at starcraft and microes well, you can totally tell and appriciate it, it's obvious, same thing when someone headshots everybody in countersrike, you can obviously tell he's good.

Of course there are exceptions - if someone solokills you, if he microes like a god with meepo, or casts 5 spells within 3 seconds as invoker the skill is apparent, but that's really an exception.
