You're fucking pathetic for even thinking like that.

See how terrible and useless that is? What's the point, I don't even think you should open your mouth if you can't communicate like a civilized person by being angry in an illogical manner. It doesn't help in any manner whatsoever to act in such a way towards a total strange, I mean I'd gladly put somebody in low priority or mute them for such conduct.

Just because there's a mute function doesn't make it right or allowed in the first place, I believe it's there for directly handling the situation (you could ignore it if it's just text, but if it's by voice that's not really possible) but not an actual solution to the problem at hand.

If you need to vent your anger, just don't type it to me or scream about it in your microphone, like what I do instead.
It's perhaps alright not being able to control yourself every now and then, but I mean for fuck sake have a little decency.
Anyways, I hope you get my point.

You guys (both) should probably calm down a bit.

You're flaming about flaming.

I'd hardly classify that as flaming, just sayin'.
It wasn't really directed at him personally in the way you perhaps thought, it was just a general opinion, so I'm sorry if that's the case. Nonetheless you should note the last sentence in my post.
EDIT: If you have any further problems with how I've phrased myself or anything regarding this, feel free to PM me instead about it.

I don't see how my post can be considered as flaming... the standars have seriously dropped low in these years ^^. I was just pointing out what the things were in the past and nobody ever had a problem with it, but for some reason now there is a need for an automatic mute system.

If you don't want to hear someone flame/jokes/russian voice/whatever your reason might be then you can mute him in 2 clicks (note: you will be the only one to not hear him). There is no need to go cry to mother Valve.
This system is stupid, period. Not only it damages the team who has the muted player in but it also makes a choice for all the community. At the end of the day only a few people ( the one who send the report ) decide for everyone if someone can type in game or not.
I don't want to have a muted player on my team or the enemy team, but guess what I can't decide because this system acts globally. I want to mute the person I want to mute, I don't want someone else to decide for me.
How can someone defend such a flawed system...

edit: I'm gonna type my experience with the mute system and why it is stupid and easily abusable because I have nothing else to do atm ( I got muted only once a couple of weeks ago ).

I was playing a game, we stomped a 4 men stack ( maybe 3+2 I don't remember, but that's not important ) and at the end of the game I typed "gl in ti3 loser bracket". It was just a joke but the enemy team started typing "reported" in chat. Ok, I thought a wouldn't get muted since I don't consider something like that flaming or being bad mannered. Nope, next game I was muted. Now my friends couldn't hear me anymore, couldn't see what I typed anymore just because a stack was butthurt and decided to gang on me.
Good system is good ^^.

There are two different things in your posts that peope agree or disagree with. First is the system, whether its flawed, second is wheter flaming in general is acceptable(he thinks its not).

Telling someone to grow a pair wtf seriously sounds like a reasonable flame in my book, surely you guys can argue without resorting to ad hominems.

THE SYSTEM WORKS!
Because they were butthurt and decided to 'gang' on you?
If you didn't insult them, they wouldn't have reported you for insulting them and you wouldn't have been muted.

I think flaming adds flavor but thats just me. Of course you could argue that if you are the target of the flame your personal enjoyment is diminished but the person on the other side is probably not even serious. Somewhere along the line flaming went from demeaning - joking - unprofessional. I think one of the main reasons people play internet games is because they can communicate in ways they cant in real life and that is one of the merits of internet anonymity. Of course if you want people to communicate like they do in real life you are probably going to have a boring experience because people will be less likely, as a whole, to communicate with you. That is because a large majority of gamers are introverts, and when you strip away their anonymity they will simply obey their nature and slink into the shadows.

TLDR: Flaming is necessary for a healthy gaming experience

I feel like the mute system could use tweaks; I'm not sure how it works right now, but I feel like it should be based on a number of reports against you spread over multiple games (2-3 would be good). I hear a lot about stacks being able to singlehandedly mute a player in one game, and I'm not sure if that's true or not. But if it is, I'd hope to see that fixed, naturally.

That said, the idea of the system is great. If you can't stay positive and appreciate how hilarious dota is, I don't wanna listen to you. It's a videogame, we play for fun, and if an enigma blinks in with his ulti on cooldown for 3 more seconds, you should laugh and not rage :D Because hey, that's pretty fucking funny.

I use the mute button a lot, it's great. Often I see pre-muted people in my games now, which is another huge plus. The only thing I toss out my reports for is intentional feeding lately (only one occurrence so far, yay!)

Then mute the damn guy.

Does anyone see a pattern in the invasion of russian players and now the fact that Mathcmaking feels like coldwar Moscow ?

Why do you need more than a mute button ? Why is the system great if all it does is decide for me which player I can or cannot hear, when it takes me 2 clicks to do this decision by myself ? This is a system where the exploits outweigh by a lot the actual benefits. I didn't get muted, and I don't think it's THAT big of a problem if you play with muted people as long as they can use pings/voicecommands correctly. But why this system ?

Poor reading skills of my part :p

The system should in theory save you the first few insults from a known flamer, not save you 2 clicks. At the moment establishing what it takes to reach that level is a problem. 2 reports a week were supposed to make people not report randomly

The mute system is incredibly retarded. There is a mute button for a reason and people should learn how to use it.If you don't get along with someone in every tenth game it doesn't mean you have to be forced to not communicate with anyone just because of it.It's really infuriating when I can't get a response from someone just because the system decided he needs to be muted and the only thing I want to know if he is going to buy sents or not.
I mean come the fuck on at least give people the ability to type yes,no and ok in the chat.
allow me to demonstrate the skill of shaolin

Ouija style. Ping once for yes, twice for no.

I understand Valve's concern with newer players etc... But even if you agree with the concept, you gotta admit, this is flawed as fuck. Right now, you can get muted, in a single game, without having said anything simply because the stack you played with or agaisnt didn't like the way you played. For 1% percent of people that actually deserved their mute because of repetitive flaming, you get people who didn't want to cooperate with a stack, people who picked pl, people who just had a bad day, people who had a bad game, people who had a bad fight, people who made one missclick in the entire fucking game but still, everything's their fault, the very common "baited" and such even get reported. How hard is it to at least have a bot that goes over the chatlog looking for MULTIPLE offensive words in MULTIPLE games fro a guy reported by MULTIPLE people.

Have a noob-tier matchmaking where saying anything else than "this game is so fun" is punishable by death. I can understand noobs not wanting to have a bad experience. But seriously, at some point you gotta accept you're playing with human beings.

Dealing with people who have a bad day, or make a single mistake or whatever is fine, in the real world. In online gaming most are always having a bad day.

If there wasn't any punishment for any action in Dota 2, it would probably be unplayable, since people just don't give a fuck. Giving FB to the enemy turns into the whole team flaming you because why the hell not.

The mute system in place right now needs some adjustments for sure, but it seems to be working. I for one would rather have a game played without chatting at all, than a game filled with flames.
