It's also much better than midas, which is just a static gold increase, whereas battlefury multiplies how many creeps you can kill per minute (which synergizes with greed).

Because games that allow you to get a farming item first and farm out the game are the exception rather than the rule. Shadow blade is chosen because Alchemist is an effective midgame gank hero, and Shadow Blade suits that. Battle Fury obviously feels better in a game where you can get away with it, but that isn't commonly the case.

Like with medusa, i could clear jungle as fast as AM if not faster, sadly i cant move from camp to camp fast enough. Same with lane creep, you can kill them as fast as you want but only 4 spawn per wave plus Bfury pushing the lane out, expose your carry to enemy ganks. Midas on the other hand is cheaper and has much earlier impact into farming, give you a huge bonus exp(which is pretty damn important on hard carry). Its not to say 1 item is better than the other but they should all be considered situational. Look at Loda doom with the naked vlad rush o.O

Look at Loda doom with the naked vlad rush o.O This is generally true, however, Alchemist is the exception to the rule. Because killing creeps faster is better than gold / creep with him, he really benefits from items like maelstrom and batttlefury. However, like Yango said, it really becomes more of a "can I actually get away with this, or do I need midgame strength?" In the current trends the game is being played, its midgame strength.

Im not gona do the math, reinstalling dota2 atm. The point is midas comes in much earlier and doesnt push out lanes like Bfury does. Given a free farm alchemist i think you can clear creeps fast enough for the greevil greed bonus to last. Not even counting the fact that you could rush Bfury relatively fast with going midas first(may be 2 mins different?). damn things are really hard to calculate with alchemist bc it is different from game to game.

In western DotA? Absolutely, you can get away with it. A good 75% of games I see is a mid hero, carry farming the easy lane, and the remaining 3 heroes are pulling/farming the jungle. You can absolutely get away with a battlefury on Alchemist in that setup, if you max greed you should have it around 10 minutes, easily. I still see many players go for a shadowblade in this setup and not do anything with it.
