Yeah his animations are very slow / detailed, but that's always been like that, also in wc3 DotA.

If you're taking DotA 1, Omni wasn't popular at all in 6.72, at least not in Chinese play (and Western DotA 1 was barely relevant by the time of TI1).

Yeah his animations are very slow / detailed, but that's always been like that, also in wc3 DotA. Pretty sure it was Fear who explained why people stopped playing him (the first time). When EG went to China, their experience was that winning the lanes was more important than anything else. Better laning meant a better midgame which meant a better chance of winning. Omniknight, used in that style, did very little to help a team win lanes and against the better laning picks popular in China was basically a conceded middle lane.

Aside from moving out of range I don't think there's a way to break static link. BKB and linkens don't work, nor do any of the disruption / phase shift esque. Maybe ghost scepter does? but I doubt it...

Other than that circumstance it's hard to pick omni because he's melee and a support, so if you put him in a dual lane with a carry it'll be basically a useless lane, and he doesn't gain too much from being solo and can't gank effectively. That said, omni is probably the most annoying hero ever to team fight against, and if you can't get a diffusal whichever carry he decides to repel will own your face.

I think he's better off in the jungle, he could stack small and medium creeps 3 times, then kill them with heal. I've tried this and it doesn't really seem to work. Purification is too expensive and too weak at level 1. And if you get the healing creep in the small camp you're just fucked. If you're talking about pulling so you can actually get some levels before clearing stacks that might be a different story.

I liked the Omni Storm combo which was used occasionally a long time ago. Add a KotL for good measure. Omni's laning issue remains though and Storm's laning isn't too great either.
