IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Posts that relate to topics with their own thread, such as in News, Tournaments or Strategy should go in those threads.

I'm still wondering why ogre sees NO competitive play what so ever.
His stats are good for a support and his stun DOES have a really low cooldown.
Couldn't he work in trilanes where the whole melee support thing doesn't hurt quite as much, or is it really the whole melee thing keeping him from working?

He needs levels. Trilanes = no levels.

You have two ways to play Orge, the standard one is the one you usually type: 'JACKPOT' whenever you multicasted and the second one is getting that incredibly broken Bloodlust early so your carry get a free hyperstone.

Ya i am still waiting to see any top team to pick orge. Imagine that 3X showed up on enemy carry's head, would be hilarious to watch!

Yeah he need level and big items to spam his 6 sec cd skillfireblast with 200 mana cost. You can play him with little farm, but his Fireblast when not multicasted isn't amazing, and he's melee. Bloodlust is his best skill, but i'm not sure u can justify a pick only off that.

I still like to play him a lot, Arcane into bloodstone for infinite skillblasts.

Spirit Breaker as a carry with an Ogre magi support works really well, but for that to work on pro teams you need to have a spirit breaker player and an ogre magi player.

Very high just describes the quality of the game, not the MMR. If you have a game of like 10 smurfs where almost everyone gets over 400 gpm or something I'm sure it'll be put down as Very High but their MMR is not necessarily at a super high point. Very High does tend to associate with better MMR only with regards to the fact that higher MMR players will usually on average have a game that has the characteristics required for a Very High classification.

Like there've been games where all the players are definitely Very High but because someone afked, griefed or left it dropped down to High or Normal because the quality of the game was lowered.

Misconception#2 on the list.

Just from personal experience I am pretty sure you have just misinterpreted that post. I went on a terrible losing streak over time saw my games in the replay filter go from exclusively very high, to a mix of high/very high, to exclusively high, to a mix of normal/high. Afterwards I managed to go on a winning streak and under the replay filter my games crawled through normal/high, back to high/very high and finally back to only very high. Now I am on another losing streak and my games have dropped back either into high/very high.

Your interpretation of that post that quotes Eric Tams from Valve is incorrect. Very high/High/Normal are all indicative of MMR. It is not a representation of GPM or any other statistic in the game. It does not list your individual MMR skill of course, which is what Eric is saying. It however does indicate the skill level average of the game, though not everyone in the game may be at your skill level, or whatever perception of Very High etc might mean, as there are multiple subtiers inside the 3 listed in the replay filter. This information is easily gathered by winning and losing games, observing said players in those games, over a period of 1000 games played for any individual who isn't fucking around in their games. Needless to say, if someone gets 800 GPM in a game it does not become a very high level game as someone else has mentioned in this thread. That is a misconception of itself. Furthermore Eric Tams has changed/improved the MMR on 6 several occasions since mentioning that post, which you can find in the Dota 2 Dev forums.

I want to think that Icefrog simply has too much pride to let anyone else help him balance heroes beyond making suggestions. Its clear he understand how to balance stuff, though it may take him months to years considering Dota 2's history (unacceptable by todays standards).

To me, taking months/years is acceptable because of the way that newly introduced/remade heroes are not in the competitive CM mode, and because of the whole ban/pick drafting.

The only issue are the "engine buffs". Magnus is a problem because he was weaker in Dota 1, and just porting him didn't justify removing him from -CM. After the game settles, there will be fewer issues.

That's basically what I did - as a 5th position OM, since Earthshaker didn't feel like supporting, I did all the wards, courier, dust, etc. I bloodlusted our PA and Fireblasted anyone who was a threat to her.

...babysit for the extreme, pretty much. Didn't like it.

oh and the first time I got a 3X multicast I just typed "MULTAILSDMAISCSTE" into allchat

Maybe they slowed down the hero releases with that in mind. 1 "broken" hero more each week would destroy the scene, then again I don't see so many possible Magnus-level heroes left.

If the angle detection messes up with bristle-back/medusa i could see some big problems, honestly.

TC, Medusa, any of the heroes introduced after Dota 2 went into beta, etc. There are plenty of ones left.

Tauren chieftan would like to have a word with you, he was strong, he got stronger with the ability to activate skills on him spirit. His aura is also one of the most op ever.

TC and Bristle will likely break the game upon re-release. the angle detection improvements will make bristle far more powerful in dota 2 than in war3.
