It's definitely not Windows 8. I've been using Windows 8 Pro for a month (I have access to MSDN, thus the RTM) and never had an issue with any game, let alone Dota 2.

Good side is that eradicates installing Windows 8 as the problem. Bad news is that leaves me back at square one.

I have no idea how programmers eradicate bugs, finding the source of them is the most difficult thing ever, especially with no logs.

I think the super-lenient leaver/abandon/low-prio system is kinda their solution for a lack of concede. People from HoN (and I think League too?) are used to much stricter punishments for abandonment, so we just don't consider it and option, when clearly it is. The punishment is minimal at best (first abandon of the day is free I think? so...). Low priority can actually be a ton of fun as well (just queue it with friends for great lulz). Plus Free-to-Play means you can easily wait out Low-Prio times by swapping accounts if you really hate it.

But I agree I'd like to see concede. Valve won't implement it though, they will leave it up to the players to just Disconnect if they are done with the game.

As it currently is, people will generally fight harder and not give up as soon as they're at a disadvantage.

Not really. People just fountain hug and bitch the other team isn't ending it fast enough. That has become the defacto response to being totally overmatched and rolled over.

I'm a proponent of surrender, but with very limited application. For instance doubled up on kills, and all towers down, while enemy still has at least one tier 2...that's surrenderable, you're not coming back from that as an average player on a pub team 95% of the time.

I certainly don't want a situation like LoL though, where as soon as your down a kill or two, you've got some guy spamming 'gg' and surrender votes.

Debuggers We actually run the software in a special mode that lets us "step through" the code and see the data as it moves through the system and how it's changed. It's "cheating", but man is it super helpful.

Thoughts on having no surrender function in the game? I've lost count on how many times me and my friends just get steamed rolled throughout the entire game and there's literally no hope for a comeback, just the continous humiliaton for 20 minutes where the enemy team just runs around with their 30 kill lead and look to build more items before finally pushing.

I know I will get alot of elitist answers, but do you guys really think this will help the new players to keep at it and keep on playing the game or are you just gonna tell them to go back to LoL?

It really feels like a fundamental flaw to me. The benefits of lessening the humilation and prolonged suffering must surely outweight the risk of having people give up too early.

It would be nice if it wasn't implemented as a time sensitive feature like it is in other games.

iG / NA / LGD team houses. At the end they get Misery and Pajkatt to say something in Chinese, it's pretty amusing.

I don't wanna create a shitstorm but this is exactly what M5.Alex Ich from LoL meant. A lot of professional players focus on having mansions and superficial millionaire bullshit and then don't win shit cought CLG.LoL/Curse.LoL/EG.Starcraft cought. You don't need to live in a millionaire mansion if you are going to practice in a small room with your teammates.

I'm glad to see Pajkatt and Misery so happy there. Hope to see action for them soonish and maybe LGD should stream a showmatch between LGD.int vs LGD.cn.

So if you don't have a full 5man you're pretty much forced to just bend over and take it repeatedly for however long the enemy team finds it amusing to humiliate you. Otherwise you get punished for abandoning the game and get put in a low-priority pool with no possilibies for points in future games.

That just seems so wrong to me, its like saying "if you don't like the pain we will punish you for refusing it."

People now just sit in fountain instead of DCing.

I really like dota 2 I'm just worried about the growth of the playerbase if new players are forced to just take it from the rear for however long the enemy decides its fun.

@senx: I made a nice post for you regarding the nice lenient abandon system and how you really can just leave if you want to.

also, you say: "no possibilities for points in future games". Who cares? the points do almost nothing, and you are only low-prio for 24 hours (unless I guess something egregious happens, dunno). Just play on a smurf for 24 hours.

Also, my "pro tip" for those stuck sitting in your pool: Go farm THEIR jungle, they rarely suspect it because they are trying to camp your jungle and all the lanes. Sure, its pointless farming, but it feels a lot better than running around in your own fountain. The hard part is escaping your base. Smoke is usually good for this.

Honestly, if you join a game and this has been DotA philosophy for so many years, you fight until the end. And that's why IceFrog and other developers never ever thought about implementing surrender vote. We all know how many comebacks can happen in DotA.

I think VALVe should implement something like "if you don't move from fountain/base in X minutes you are automatically kicked from the game and get in low-priority for X time without getting goodies from X time to X time". I really hate people doing that as well and I think this is the perfect time to remind old days by showing this video:

Eh, I dunno Sn0...I'm not sure "take an abandon, make a smurf" is the right answer to the current fountain camping that happens in roll over games. That seems like a pretty punitive stance on the matter, but who knows.

I am torn on this. On one hand, I've been in enough fountain camp situations to know it sucks. On the other hand, I played LoL long enough to know that making the surrender conditions too easy just leads to defeatism.

So...you want to punish people who are being fountain camped? What? That doesn't seem right at all.

And you already do get kicked/lowpro'ed if you AFK in the fountain for too long, that's already in the game. It (rightly) disengages when your towers/rax are down, so people don't get punished for being fountain camped.

There is an auto-abandon system if you don't do stuff (doing stuff constitutes killing or doing damage or getting XP I believe)

Ok so, played a game vs Drow. Not an usual game when you rax and it's gg, it was pretty close.
Even tho we managed to rax once then rax again later.
Guess what, even our mega lanes couldn't push vs Drow aura xD In fact they were pushed most of the time (which was pretty good in this case cause they couldn't really cross the river so they couldn't farm much). This is pretty sick :O

You usually don't get fountain camped for more than 5 to 10 minutes. Many people just go farm their jungle or hide in the bushes like someone said previously. I meant for leavers/afk people.

As Sn0 and I pointed out, that system already exists. If you afk/just walk around your base for 5 or 10 minutes, you'll auto-abandon.

Who was on Drow's team?

That's Drow's real strength now, paring her with the right heroes. Alone, she's strong but not over the top strong. With the right heroes on your team (think Sniper or Enigma), her global aura becomes crazy.

Wait, EG Starcraft is in there?

You know why they have the house they do, right? First, property in Arizona is cheap. Second, it's near where SirScoots lives, which happens to be their studio for EGMCS. Third, the house is where they do all their creative stuff and original content. They need the space for that sort of thing alone. I mean, they've had a documentary crew filming them for the last year, plus stuff like Geniuses Falling and No More Announcements. I don't know anything about CLG or Curse's LoL teams, but I doubt the situations are the same. And if Alex directly brought up EG's SC2 team as an example of this millionaire-itis, then he's completely full of shit.

On your edit: No you can't. It measures more than just activity, it measures experience gain and some other things to determine if you're actually active. Not to say you can't cheat it, but just moving every minute isn't enough.
