I think my strengths while playing the hero are that I am pretty good at using my nuke globally to help other lanes and ganks, and using my ultimate to set up kills of my own, but I find myself to be completely garbage at everything else. I am terrible at using cogs properly, I often just wind up getting myself killed because I use it improperly. I also have no idea what good items are for him, or what is good situationally on him. I'm also not really clear what my role should be in a lot of games, normally i try to play as a beefy initiator, but sometimes I feel unsure if that's the right way to play him, and maybe I should take a more supportive role. Halp? Advice? Not to sure about item advice, but I like blademail on any tanky initiator just because being there first means you are an easy target. As far as how to use cog the only thoughts i have are be aware of how big your cog is and also the fact that it can help or hurt your team. Using cog to stop chasers by blocking a ramp and killing one side is a good use. Using cog immediately after initiating and splitting your team from a teamfight is a bad use. (I've seen this happen so many times in Radiant forest and near Roshan.) Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along.

Halp? Advice? Clockwerk is one of those heroes that relies on your team to follow up on your initiation. You have the right idea of going the "beefy initiator" role. Basically all you need to do is land a nice hook, set up your cogs, and turn on battery assault. This is more than enough to disorient the enemy team and give the rest of your team the time to follow up. As far as items are concerned blademail, phaseboots, cloak (into pipe), and agh scepter. Anything from there is situational. Maybe forcestaff to give yourself more mobility.

Traditional you go maxing rocket, rune control, map control with rocket vision. Basicly Rocket -> Battery -> cog but get 1 level of cog around lv 2 or 4. Farm until urn+tranquil, level 6 start ganking people, initiate with rocket, after 2-3 rocket on target-> hook him -> gangbang if you have a teammate. Otherwise keep farming until eul. Combo is trap-> battery -> eul -> free battery dmg. Eul also let you set up cog and escape and movement etc, pretty much perfect item on clock. Late game get blade mail/hood/heart/shiva etc... Your main role entering late game is split pushing using rocket and be annoying with the rest of your skill set. NEW CLOCK BUILD: max out cog-> battery, fuck rocket. You go support. Go safe lane and protect carry. You approach enemy at a certain range and turn on cog-> they ran out of mana+ HP, at level 1 it cost 50 mana and 15 sec cooldown(less than rocket) and you dont have to worry about pushing lane. Build tanky, get mek ward etc and pretty much be VS 2.0 for the other team to rape your ass so your carries could get kills. GG.

I wasn't sure how to play clock after the recent patch.

But missing out on level 1 maphack rockets, to set up your lanes early? I believe I remember a 2009 video where basically all his pre-creep spawn rockets scout out the opponents perfectly.

It's his best skill by far.

PL is pretty hard to gank, lol. Even if you have detection, you're likely to pass a bunch of fake Lancers on the way through the jungle.

this gives you 10x more power than maxing rockets first because you can actually get reliable kills with battery. rocket cooldown is way too long to do anything meaningful and the dmg is laughably bad

Rockets when thing and battery when this but sometimes cogs if also. I think I'm going to stick with whatever fits the situation.
