You will get used to it.

I asked some question based on my knowledge and thats it. I'm very interested in dota 2. It looks awesome when you watch tournaments and all. Its much better than LoL to spectate tbh. Since I liked it alot I tried it, and came to me that the game is too hard for new players eventhough I have some dota-like experience. Thats why I asked this question. Animations and all that delays are half of the balance in the early game also half of the fun. You said you don't like it, I know it won't change, so you should go to the game that doesn't have it if it stops you from enjoying the game. And unless you're playing against batrider none of that should be an issue for you(bat slows your turn rate, that motherfucker). Also don't try to think of dota as something you can change, you should adapt, not the game

The minute difference between heroes even in attack/cast animations is vital in game balance. For example, in the next patch coming (6.75), one of the most popular heroes called Leshrac has one of his skills changed from being an instant cast to requiring a cast time of 0.7 seconds. That doesn't seem like much to a newbie to the scene but for many people it is a considerable nerf.
What's wrong if new players can't last hit properly? It takes a while for them to learn how to last hit, that's fine with me. Not every new player in the world wants to be spoonfed the easiest game in the world.
'There is no way game will be popular if such difficult (frustrating) mechanics exist in it.' It is still in beta yet The International had 500,000 concurrent viewers. It is already popular.
By the way, piece of advice: next time if you're new to a game and have questions, seek to understand first why the game works in such a way before making borderline uneducated suggestions.

The fact that the game is consitently the most played game on steam for the last, what, 6 months? is a better example of popularity. Anyway, if you have a 0.5 sec delay than it's a hardware/internet thing on your side

The turn rate and attack animation speed "disappears" pretty quickly in your mind when you just get to learn the heroes and the mechanics of DotA. I would also recommend staying away from HoN and LoL if you want to get some what serious with dota 2 because the zero turn rate and attack animation speed can easily screw you over if you keep switching between the games, even more so when you are not comfortable with how it works in DotA.
I was a bit annoyed about this too when I got dota 2 because I had been playing HoN and LoL inbetween my wc3 DotA and dota 2 days.
Oh and protip; turn of vertical sync because that bitch of a setting fucks you over big time.

Semester break is coming. Can't wait to play dota all day.

Also, bokeevboke mentioned that this game basically consists of nothing but Dota 1 vets. Absolutely not true. A good percentage of the Dota 2 players on my Steam friends either had no Dota 1 experience or they dabbled in Dota 1 back when it was just another WC3 custom, but they're hooked to Dota 2 and many of them never touched another Dota-like again.

I said dota 2 is not popular because many of my online mates tried it and left it coz it was too complex (learning curve). I'm definitely sure they would like it if they learned it more. But the fact that first impression made them stay away tells me many people will react similarly.
Also, I don't think its wise to make delays similar to old dota, for a very simple reason: Old dota was played mostly on Lan (or within same city) and its not that hard to time your last hits, but dota 2 is online and any tiny spike can fuckup everything.

Well, this is what is wanted of the game. If people play it and can't deal with the complex mechanics etc, they should leave and go play easier games. Dota was made for a more hardcore crowd, which dota 1 proved was big enough to become a huge game.
I didn't play Dota 1 at all, yet I'm having a blast with Dota 2. Learning all the mechanics etc makes it feel rewarding, like SC2, where you can constantly get slightly better and easily find aspects of the game to work on.

There is no delay built into Dota 2. Old dota was definitely not played mostly on LAN. Dota 2 online has barely any lag on the right servers (I get 70 ping with my terrible internet here in the UK) which is much better than Dota 1. Not to mention that Valve plans to implement LAN into Dota 2 eventually anyway.
Spikes are your internet's problem, not Dota 2's problem.

Let's see you said the game is not popular because your limited circle of friends don't like it but ignore the actual evidence on steam numbers. How is that not flamebaiting? All you saying is "I don't like turnrates therefore no one likes turnrates and it is hindering the game". There is no evidence to support your claims other than your own opinion so it's meaningless.
All that you achieve is inciting a reaction which I and others have willing walked into. It's rather pathetic from ourside

Also valve are trying to get a tutorial, mission impossible imo. The game takes around 100 hours of hard work to get "not terribly bad" but in exchange even after playing it for 10k hours there's still place to improve in visible ways

I mean there aren't any "new people" in dota 2, basically old dota players transfered and thats it. I think its one of the reasons why dota 2 isn't so popular. Turnrate. I know about turnrate. I checked it. Delay exists even when you move forward. Also, what I hate about dota 2 is that when you last hit, you have to consider the swing before hit which is usually 0.33 sec. Thats why most new players cant last hit properly. I understand that these are all important aspects of "Dota" and valve tries to stay with it. But c'mon, its not appealing for casual players. There is no way game will be popular if such difficult (frustrating) mechanics exist in it. Why are they scared of improving game mechanics? I think they should focus more on strategic/teamwork aspects of the game. Because dota players enjoy those mechanics. The minute difference between heroes even in attack/cast animations is vital in game balance. For example, in the next patch coming (6.75), one of the most popular heroes called Leshrac has one of his skills changed from being an instant cast to requiring a cast time of ?0.25 seconds. Dota was played online.... just stop trying to flamebait. WTF?! I am not flambaiting and I am not trolling. Stop it please or gtfo. Why should he stop? It's pretty apparent that you're grasping at straws here.
LoL, what exacltly qualifies me as a flamebaiter? Care to explain?
Why I thought Dota 2 is not popular. Look at viewcount of games here twitch.tv. Its my last post in this thread. bye.

Then I just saw that you are an ignorant lol player. Oh well. Nothing of value lost. Can we ban retards like him? Or you could not be an ass.
It's not really delayed response time, it's just turn timing. The animation to switching direction has a "turn timing", more similar to a car making a u-turn, as opposed to a tank, that can turn on spot. It's just a game mechanic, which makes it feel like a clunky/slow/unresponsive mechanic, but the actions are actually being polled in real-time, not delayed at all.
It does make for a harder learning curve for nubs, but so is dribbling in basketball, as opposed to just walking with the ball in the hand.
