Nvidia cards don't work well at 8x AA and AF but really that is more or less placebo effect AA and AF unless your screen is the size like 1024x768 or something really small. But most times at that rez all cards can get the 60 fps or w.e

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150436 145$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127426 165$ Picked the cheapest out of each. (Sort -> Lowest Price) I'm sure you may be able to find a 260 on sale at another site (Tigerdirect, ect.) but you could probably find a 4870 on sale somewhere else as well. When it comes to benchmarks, a number of reviewers remarked that back in the 8.12 catalyst release the 4870 started really edging out the 260, having a 4 out of 10 top games lead at the time. That number rose to 6 out of 10 top games in the next few driver updates and even in the newer range of catalyst drivers it's pretty much been the same. To say that a 260 is a smart buy with the prices I'm observing on the market would be irresponsible. To say that a 260 might perform 5-10 frames better in a specific game you play is indeed reasonable-my question is how much is each frame worth to you, and does that one game get to be the deciding factor in your purchase? To respond to an earlier post, I am not a fanboy. That is a term thrown around on sites much less respectable than TL, the same way children throw 'ur mom' jokes at each other. You should be ashamed of bringing such immature terminology here and not be so quick to make such accusations. Check it at the door next time. I have owned Geforce cards (vanilla Ti 4200, vanilla 6800, PNY 8600 GT 512mb DDR3) and I have owned Radeon cards (9000LE, Sapphire x1600, ASUS 4870 1GB) and my thoughts are always on how much I am getting for my dollar. During the Geforce 8000 series reign I would not have purchased any Radeon card, nor can I in good conscience purchase a GTX200 series in more recent times. I am entrusted by many friends, family, and just customers to design and build PCs for them, and that trust is something that means more to me than any one companies profit margins. I owe that trust the best value, and the same objective buying that I would do when buying for myself.

Also the MSI card you listed is a much better general card then the XFX card. 1 MSI card has a much better and quieter fan. 2 the MSI card has full HDMI with audio pass though on it =p along with giving you everything but the HDMI cable in the MSI package 3 There is a 10 dollar mail in rebate why would you throw away money?? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121291 Is a much better 4870 deal esp with mail in rebate and more accurately parallels the capabilities of the msi card. As a HTPC user i would never but that 4870 you listed along with the fact ATI has a shitty rep when it comes to TV's like resolution problems, even though their cards naively have their own sound and doesn't require any extra cords to get sound working on hdmi. Along with that prices are volatile that vary from week to week so a 10 dollar difference isn't really much of a difference. And those might perform is more like will perform the difference is more like 10-20 frames more or less depending on the computer the cards are in and the games that are running the frame difference is very important when you talk about crossfire and sli if it comes up although i despise 2 card solutions like using all the 4 ram dimm slots on your mobo, certain games run on certain cards and drivers better hell if i just blindly did shit i would use drivers above 179.xx for my G80 and get 2d errors and other small shit that most people wont notice. Cards are recommend on desired usage not on blind assumptions. But hell most of the time on smaller rez 1680x1050 and below it's hard to find settings that give people below 60 fps with either of those cards.

Unfortunately I have to get a mac but they haven't released the new chipset yet. Darn. I wonder if the 512mb graphics card in the newer machines will run it at a reasonable quality? What's the new chipset. I'm also wondering whether the new 13" Macbook pro's can run Starcraft 2. They have GeForce 9400M. Is this enough to run Starcraft2 / Diablo 3?

Telling people who use Macs to not waste money and just get a desktop PC doesn't solve their problem if they want or need the better UI that OSX provides or use one for professional reasons (eg: I'm an Industrial Designer). The correct response would be, either go Mac Pro/iMac or get a desktop PC.

Except the iMac is equipped with uh.. 9400M on the two lower end models and a glorified 9500 on the 3rd most expensive model. And if you want the 4850 (A MID RANGE CARD) you have to pay more than the cost of a 4870 1gb. hey that's a great deal If you want to play SC2 at decent settings don't get a mac. period.

Therefore, getting a macbook pro with a 2.2ghz core 2 duo is retarded because it will slow down your cad and lower your productivity. Do you have any arguments other than "it looks better", which is totally subjective.
