they probably sucked so bad last year that they didnt qualify or smth...
Note that this is just first semifinal, tommorow is second semifinal. Checz effort was biggest shit ever called music... I hope they get into final lol... Super gipsy wtf... :D
Bwahaha at the Czech Repuplic one. I hope that one wins. I really hate this stupid eurovision shit, just soo annoying. Really brings out the worst of todays music.
Eurovision usually ends up hilariously bad, I don't think I'll bother to watch it this year, then again I might end up watching the point distribution despite what I said =/
Man. I grew up watching this show with my parents in the 80s and early 90s, like a lot of Norwegians. It stopped not being total crap when it just became a fashion and outrageous exhibition show. Another childhood memory zergrushed.

just wait until you see the dutch entry lmao
i am just assuming the op didnt link it because he felt sorry for us
Moskau is one of the greatest songs ever, and that video is amazing. I love how they're dressed like space pirates from a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical set in the future.
Note ppl, I only putted tonight semifinal songs !!! Second semifinal is tommorow, and best songs from last year + UK, France, Spain, Germany got into final straight.

HAHAHAHA, oh man, curiosity owned me. At least they're selling the song on sheer awesome.
The Norwegian entry wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the absurd pop beat, if the Hardingfele wasn't playing the same thing over and over, and if the guy could sing.
lol... I love Eurovision. Wasn't that where ABBA got their first break?
Anyway, it's impossible to explain its attraction. You won't understand unless you're European.
I've heard that for the Eastern Europeans, it used to be illegal to receive television or radio from outside the Soviet Union... catching the Eurovision song contest illegally was like the highlight of their existence. It actually meant a lot to them. Is that true?
On May 13 2009 11:55 MYM.Testie wrote: So.... Why does Eurovision always have such terrible songs? Is that the whole point?
No real singer would risk going on it and losing. The voting is incredibly political and predictable, with friendly Countries always voting for each other!
I'm ashamed to say the UK is taking it seriously this year, which is a MASSIVE mistake. There's no way we can win because the majority of Europe rightly dislikes us, so all it will lead to is embarrassment.
what Molvania is not an existing country, I think :D
Of course there is no such think as Molvania, this song is a spoof!
EDIT France Gall seems to have sung for a long time, though I didn't know the name before. I found this song which I recognize, so I assume that it must have been famous. + Show Spoiler +
REEDIT: indeed, she is very famous. Take this song for example: + Show Spoiler +

Celine Dion won eurovision 1988. (I don't really like her, but she is a major star)
I don't particularly have any songs this year that I'm cheering for like in previous years. Sweden's might have been interesting if her low voice wasn't so blah-ish.

Oh shit its that song at the end of death proof! NICE good shit xD
ya like someone posted, Dschinghis Khan competed but they competed with Dschinghis Khan, not moskau
and the fact that someone could think zlad was a eurovision contest participant hahaha that says a lot about the quality of the show
celine dion competed and won, but that was a good while before she became famous.
also, it actually seems like the eurovision is experiencing somewhat of a resurgence in popularity at the moment, this year the norwegian qualification process actually had several known musicians participating, although the winner ended up being a lovesick puppyeyed belanorwegiarussian fiddler-singer.
After giving most of the songs a listen I have to agree that Finland's song is the best, although I'm not sure how well it will go off live. Hopefully they will do (did?) well.
People are so fast to call that all songs entering eurovision are automatically utter crap. I understand that you want to keep your e-cool appearances up, but give it a chance. Most of the times there are at least a few songs that are decent to really nice. To name a few, Lordi, that french song from 2008 linked on the previous page, and the serbian (?) winner some years ago. There is alot of crap, but if you can ignore that there are some songs that are really worth hearing.
To the compeition's credit, there hasn't really been that many (I can't think of one) _bad_ winning songs. The songs that win are generally okay and sometimes quite good. Though, last year (or was it the year before that?) I remember Ukraine (I think?) sent some space alien with a "song" that made me want to kill myself. This entry finished in second place...
And there are always a couple of songs that are really good (like Norway and Azerbadjan this year). Though sadly one of those songs don't always win.
Sweden used to send ABBAish songs year in and year out. This year I feel that the Finnish entry is typically Swedish. Decent quality but nothing that really stands out as a worthy winner.
After the jury system was abandoned and all former Soviet member states joined the party, the show has more or less become a spectacle. Suddenly, a lot of eastern nations reached high positions with their 80s songs (really, it's funny how faaaaaaar back some of them are). The response from western nations has, accordring to me, been a lot of stupid, worthless crap that should never have seen the light of day.
It's like, I used to expect Azerbadjan to send some weird crap but expect better from western europe. That's not a valid expectation any more. Now, everybody sends crap except Azerbadjan. Lol. Though I think Norway has had two good songs in succession now. I hope they win this year.
This is the best at eurovison so far, the show in the breaks are always the best every year. That's the part when the country wants to show off their greatness.
The irony being that they didn't win, they came 4th or something.
The funny part of it all is, that they are a bunch of Lithuanian showmen who grew tired of stupid pop singing dumbass singers entering the competition and placing second to last or not even making it in to the finals, and made this song as a parody of how the singers look on the stage. They placed 6th btw, but the dance was undoubtably the best dance I've seen in Eurovision history.
yea that bald guy is so awesome i had the impression they were just friends and not really musicians, although a couple of them are decent singers and that bald guy just wanted to tag along so they agreed he'd just do a crazy dance so he could be part of it
I have the same arrangement with my friends, they're gonna make a band and I can't play any instruments nor sing, but I'll get to be part of their stage performance anyway
sorry, but the norway kid just annoy the fuck out of me with his smile and look. I think we have the biggest ever improvement possible from last year to this one, but I can still see it fail pretty hard.... i guess it is the destiny of the country
hahaha that's actually the general sentiment here in norway too at first everyone were happy for him cause he kinda appeard out of nowhere and had a catchy song now everyone is sick of him and the constant exposure he's getting, and how he looks the same in every picture, and whenever theres an article about him in the newspaper all the comments are like ahHHHH stop writing about him jesus fucking christs
"Years ago when I was younger"... what, when you were in the sandbox? Had your voice cracked yet? Give me a hint here.

Ahahah yeah, I can't believe I want us to lose this hard... but I can't watch Eurovision 2009 this year and look at Rybak without feeling like I've just been Rickroll'd by national television.
We really should have sent that one instead of the lackluster opera-crap we're sending this year. :/
ROFL @ his dance at 3:00. FOR ZE MOZERLAAAAAND!!!! i would definitely vote for this one, or maybe france's entry. btw when do they announce winner?
edit: check out wat i found on google
badass D;
also, i fucking hate it wen they sing in english. the songs are always better in their own language. like the Lithuanian entry this year sounds so fucking dumb in english

omg... Malta got through, bosnia and not belarus? WTF! Portugal was some fucking child story telling and that shit got through? people in europe, are you fucking blind and deaf? romania had a weird song where the lyrics doesn't even match the dress and theme and no idea how people vote for finland as well....Also the camara men made Montenegro fail, the only positive from the song is that the singer is sexy as fuck, and twice she gave the opportunity for us to see her underwear and those bastard holding the camara failed.
The only one I like in the first group who qualified are iceland and sweden, although I don't understand a single word of those high notes by sweden.
anyone saw the Romania performance? there was the singer (?) then 4 dancer, but there was also a girl stand at the far right corner.... doing... something. any body can enlighten me why she was there?
Ah lol, I forgot that one. Yeah, that was absolutely fucking brilliant. The live performance when he arrived in his golf cart hahahaha
why didnt this win the eurovision?
I quess it doesn't have that "strong emotion" which every other eurovision song tries to get -_- Also it doesn't stay in your head as annoyingly as most other eurovision songs
don't see how malta was lip syncing, it is a rule that requires the leading singer to be performing live on stage where and visible, thats why I asked about the Romania performance (as mentioned by the uk commentator as well). so unless there were more than 1 person on stage during the malta song, I doubt the rules will be bent. Anyway, according to history the malta singer had already come 2nd and 3rd in previous years.
Can't believe Norway won, I really think that there were way better songs (like every song in the top5). Well, nonetheless, congratulations to all Norwegians!
- Hippies from Portugal. The stage design was like a bad LSD-Trip. - The faces of terror from Russia. The stage design had huge depictions of the singers head making faces like she was in labour. And it sounded like it, too. - The Armenians. The whole show was a contest of half-nude girls shaking their asses, only Armenia put their girls in traditional garb, that only left small space for their faces. Props for that. - The Ukraine brought random crap they found on the streets of Kiev, including the singers dress. It looked like an apocalyptic wasteland on stage, the thunderdome from Mad Max 3. - The German... oh god, what have we done? And we didn't even make last place...
