Unless it's that my bosses suck. THAT I UNDERSTAND. My plan is to announce the adventuring squad by Wednesday, Jan 28 2:30am GMT (GMT+00:00), so keep your eyes on the thread! If that goes down as planned, then we will begin our adventure on Wednesday, Feb 04 2:30am GMT (GMT+00:00)! Thanks all!

Thanks for streaming asmo, and thanks to the players for playing. Pretty surprising how well some of team 2's fights go in comparison to team 1. Even team 2's dice rolls weren't necessarily bad.

It's really just a stylistic choice though, I'm sure GMD would probably lean more towards the side of revealing numbers.

It leaves a bit of the air of combat chaos for the players to try and make decisions in. I'm used to playing this way too but knowing the exact dice roll is "better" for the player. I guess it depends on how much number talk you want/have. Its harder with newer players because they won't make as informed decisions and the best way to learn would be someone more experienced explaining the situation and numbers help with that. Last night was really fun. Baridorn rolled really well. Didn't get to use my bow tho. I thought about using it on the boss but i was already holding both my swords and she was in melee with Najid. Sorry about the computer issues again. Now that I have my car I'm browsing computer parts.

I rarely ended up rolling against it though, because that adds a lot of unnecessary extra bookkeeping/dice rolls. At the very least, most sensible fighters would have more knowledge of the relative strength of his defenses against his opponent's offenses than just "hit" and "miss" entail (at the very least, a decent fighter would only need a round or two to know whether his opponent is better or worse than he is unless his opponent is deliberately pulling his punches/trying to be unpredictable). And a very intelligent/high level fighter would absolutely be able to discern it to the level of precision that one can figure out based on knowing dice rolls.

I think its pretty important if you have abilities that you can use that boost your AC but doesn't really matter if you don't. Almost more importantly i think that, if your players have such abilities its easier to just tell them the number than to tell them "its a hit but you can shield it". Though doing the latter may feel better for your players and if it does you will probably want to do it. I rationalize it by saying that your players should have an idea if they can deflect something. They've used the magic before and presumably have some idea about how it works. They're used to combat even if they aren't amazing or supernatural at it, like a high level fighter would be. They know that the thing that is dead on at them can't be deflected, but the thing that isn't can be. And if that is what attack rolls represent then they would know that to a reasonable precision, even if they don't know the precise number. From a functional system perspective the spells lose a lot of power if you do not know whether or not they will succeed when used. Most defensive spells are reaction based(or at least the best ones are) because spells that cost actions have "hidden" costs in disallowing you from attacking that round. And the power of the spell tends to assume you know whether or not you're going to get hit.
