Also Wave, I was planning on Tiefling, but when I read Asmo's version of them for Iris they were sufficiently different enough from the book version that my character no longer fit the mold. I really like the book version of them.

Like the Warlock who worshipped an Old One and was trying to kill a powerful enough god that Cthulu could be made manifest in Iris. Having no prior knowledge of what any of this was before reading it all this time, I didn't really find any issues adapting things in the book to make sense in Iris though.

One of the characters i had written up was a monk who would go every other level wizard to be a Diviner, as the monastery was one in which the monks tried to train for the end of the world, and used divination research to figure out when it was coming and how. Diviner's have a special place in my heart. i dropped it when i realized how BS it would be to have a halfling monk/diviner, where i'd probably take the lucky feat just to stay in line with the character. controlling every roll possible seemed less fun than a pure diviner.

Should I have looked into dual specializations or feats at all? Cause I didn't.

Multiclass is a bit complicated and I would definitely not suggest it for your first character. It's not even something I've ventured into trying yet. also, how do you not know what that is?! - that's the song I had to sing for Fantasy LCS bet

that kind of stuff. feats are just an alternate choice as you level up to increasing your stat points, and they do various things for your character, like allow you to become proficient in heavier armor than your class normally wears, or to become an expert with pole-arms ect. they are neat to look at if you are interested in them.

Say you want to be a ninja type character, so you go rogue and then follow the assassin path, but you want to be more naruto ninja than just assassin-y ninja, so you take a few levels of wizard to become an illusionist as well. you could take it further and add monk to that, to take way of the shadow so you can teleport between shadow-y spots. and now you have your well defined, level 12+ naruto ninja, who will be most likely weaker every step of the way until then. fuck that sounds so much fun

Probably separate from the main story. We'll use the characters to get a feel for them and how a session would play out. And it'll be a (hopefully) self-contained mini-adventure that won't even be "canonical." More something just to play out a few encounters for fun and analysis.

If not, are you using the one-shot to figure out who you want? (ie 'auditions')

I like some characters more than others, but if some people play better together or their characters have good interactions, then they go up. Also it's just about who has fun while playing/who I enjoy playing with, honestly. tl;dr - Yes, they're auditions in a way, but auditions where being yourself in a game is the most important part.
