joking? im surprised to hear someone who actually lives in canada repeat the myth that canadians are generally "nice" and racism/bigotry arent an issue. i live in the GTA and there are tons of racist fucks everywhere, especially against arabs, pakistanis, muslims in general, etc. and certainly against blacks as well. my wife's coworker who was from trinidad routinely had people yell "nigger" at her in the parking lot of her work. there's an enormous amount of homophobia as well, jst like in the US. it's different in toronto but that's the same in any urban area, urban zones are more progressive and modern in most western countries.
also your comments that "whites are the least racist" and what you said about gypsies are pretty sketchy and not what i associate with people who claim to view all people as brothers and sisters and not caring about superficial differences. might want to reexamine yourself.

As for your first paragraph... I suppose I should have been more specific, I'm talking as someone living in a city with 1mil+ people, and in the top 5 largest cities in Canada.
I truly believe that in Western Canada, if you work to better yourself as a person, are kind to others, work on making yourself self-sufficient, are respectful, you will receive no racist remarks from any educated individual.
There is obviously racism towards First Nations, homeless people are really looked down upon (there are many programs in place to get people out of homeless, all that is required is effort), ISIS is really looked down upon, and anyone actively trying to spread their religion is REALLY looked down upon, anyone trying to take advantage of other people is really looked down upon... If you are an honest tax payer, who wishes to live their life however they want, while still within the confinements of the fundamental laws Canada is built on, I truly think it's a great place to live if you want freedom in choice. Canada's biggest flaw comes from it having an absurdly inefficient political structure and the court system, and procedure for anything is very extensive, long, and just lots of checking that it's acceptable before it's sent out, but I think that's the case with any regime that has elements of socialism and regulation.
Anyway, I have lived in Calgary for 10+ years, and I have not once seen a case of racism between adults who were sober and acted like the people described.
See, for Canada it works really well... Because so much of our population growth is from immigrants, we can be very choosy with who we bring in, and you better believe that the number one thing we will look at is how respectful, and how comfortable you will be with a person of a different ethnicity, a different religion, etc. Then of course we want educated individuals, and it simply leads to a large population of that desired population... Meantime lots of countries that don't have immigration like ours will struggle with many toxic problem children, those who are into hard drugs, pubs 5x a week, theft, so forth. Not to say it doesn't happen here, because it certainly does, but much less so than almost any European country I've been to.
I can leave my laptop at the university overnight on a desk and nobody will take it, I can shovel my snow off my drive way and I can leave the shovel out in front of the house. I can go to a Walmart on a bike, and leave it out unlocked for an hour.... When I lived in Slovakia, people would steal toilet paper from bathrooms. That's why now when I went last time, they ask you: "Big one or small one?", and then they hand you a few squares of toilet paper as necessary.
