Update as of about 3 weeks after the accident:

Just wanted to provide an update on this situation for anybody that donated or who was interested.

Kyle has just barely been moved from the ICU to rehab after being there for over 3 weeks. He has very little functionality in the right side of his body and also quite severe memory loss. He has barely been able to speak and his ability to is continuing to be examined. Walking, basic functions, etc all require a lot of assistance and it's undetermined how permanent any of the issues he is having now will be.

Overall, based on what most cases are like in his situation, he is actually ahead of the curve but still has a mountain of work ahead of him. Thus far, recovering to a fairly normal state seems possible, but again, will take a lot of time. It seems fortunate he is even in that spot because most people that suffer the kinds of injuries he had don't recover at all... he had to be revived on the scene anyway, which is craziness.

Due to the financial situation, his wife and Kyle by association had to give their apartment up and move into their parents' house, so they are most definitely hampered by all of this. The money raised is aimed at providing food, necessities, any sort of accommodations they might need for Kyle in the longer term, as well as the medical expenses themselves.

I was able to give his wife about $5000 raised between this event, our local SC2 scene, as well as Kyle's family and friends. Any help has been very much appreciated and it blew them away at how supportive everyone has been. Thank you guys for your time, thoughts and donations! Once Kyle is coherent enough to understand the situation, I'm sure he'll be blown away at how cool the community is! <3

Original Post
A friend of mine, and an avid SC2 player, Kyle Miller Treu was involved in a serious car accident yesterday on the I-15 freeway. His car was struck on the driver's by a dumptruck traveling at highway speeds, and he had to be cut free from the vehicle and resuscitated on the scene. He then went straight into surgery at a local hospital and is currently in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit.

He is very young and this is obviously devastating to his wife and family. My wife is a nurse and knows from first-hand experience that being the ICU is serious business and recoveries are often long and very expensive.

The most important thing is that we generate as much as we can to help his family and hopefully take some stress away from a terrible situation. The donation link is below and anything will go a long way.

Donation Link: http://www.gofundme.com/azgudc

I am holding a tournament to help lessen the financial burden on his wife and family, and encouraging anybody to play and donate to his benefit. Hopefully this will help spread the word and help out a fellow SC2 supporter in his recovery. He has always been to every local tournament and gathering related to SC2 here in Salt Lake City, and would be grateful to hear that the same community of people are supporting him when he needs it.

The tournament will be on July 10th at 2 PM EST. I will cast as many games as I can on my stream, and the stream link will be posted to the event calendar and on the side bar when it is going on. Prize structure is as follows:

1st: $100
2nd: $50

Thank you very much and I hope we can have fun and do something good for a great guy!

Latest update on Kyle and his family's situation:
Thank you all for so much support. I was just able to give Kyle's wife about $2400 after I ordered a check from the donation page. They are unbelievably grateful for all of the support they have been getting. I can confidently say the Starcraft community has generated about half of that amount, so thanks again for being awesome people.

He is still dealing with standard brain injury stuff - lots of swelling, still on ventilators and whatnot, but signs are good considering the circumstances. We won't know any sort of long-term damage until the swelling goes down, but they are seeing better response signs than is normal with his types of injuries.

My hope is that he is awake to watch the tournament and hopefully it'll raise a bit more money once we are live. What I really need are more players to give their time and maybe earn a bit of money. I know at this rate he will be in the hospital and in therapy for quite a while, so every little bit helps, even if it's just to lighten the mood.

Thanks again!

Man, I'd play if my computer hadn't died two days ago.

All the best to him and his family and to you for this nice gesture.

Thank you guys so much. It means a lot.

His dad posted an update today saying that he is moving and they are optimistic about his recovery, but the road is long and tricky. I haven't been in touch with his wife since this morning but I am sure she is dealing with so much. I will keep up the updates, but we have already accomplished so much. Thank you guys for being awesome.
